Personal Profile
Xiao Aiguo, self-styled as Yantian Gengfu, also known as the master of Yanyun Studio. Born in 1972 in Shandong Anqiu City, Han ethnicity, with a college education. Developed a strong interest in calligraphy since junior high school, self-studied Tang Dynasty regular script “Duobao Pagoda Stele” during spare time. Later, while working, continued self-study of “Yan Qinli Stele” without interruption. Subsequently enrolled in the Chinese Calligraphy program at Shandong University, systematically studying calligraphy, which broadened his horizons, deepened his understanding of calligraphy, and significantly improved his calligraphic skills.        In 1996, participated in the “First China-Japan Calligraphy Elite Competition” and won third prize in Yokohama, Japan; in 1999, participated in the “Third National Literary and Artistic Joint Exhibition” and won the gold award; received over 30 other excellence awards in various exhibitions and competitions.
In 1997, participated in the “National Calligraphy and Painting Talent Qualification Certification” examination and obtained certificates as “First-Class Calligrapher” and “Senior Art Lecturer.”
Later, by chance, I had the honor of meeting Mr. Wang Yudian, a renowned military calligrapher from Shandong, and became his disciple. Graciously, Master Wang generously instructed me: for regular script, primarily studied Tang Dynasty Yan-style; for clerical script, focused on Han Dynasty styles of Cao Quan and Yi Ying; for running script, studied the works of the Two Wangs. While teaching me brush calligraphy, Master Wang emphasized that calligraphy must keep pace with the times, and urged me to simultaneously study hard-pen calligraphy, beginning with “Lingfei Jing” and later learning from various masters. Being able to closely follow such a renowned calligrapher as Master Wang, diligently copying classical models and practicing both brush and hard-pen calligraphy, I benefited immensely, and my calligraphic skills reached a new level.
In 2019, participated in the National Calligraphy Teacher Qualification Certification Conference and obtained the certificate of “National Advanced Registered Teacher for Standardized Character Writing.”
Since 2008, has served as a full-time calligraphy teacher at art education institutions, founded Banmo Studio Calligraphy Academy, deeply devoted to the cause of calligraphy education, accumulating rich teaching experience. Willingly acts as a torchbearer, inheriting China’s national treasures, striving to ensure children “learn to write Chinese characters well from childhood, and grow up to be good Chinese citizens.”
Currently a member of the China Hard Pen Calligraphy Association, Guest Associate Professor at the Japan National Art Calligraphy Institute, National First-Class Calligrapher, Senior Art Lecturer, National Advanced Registered Teacher for Standardized Character Writing, member of the Shandong Working Committee of the China Hard Pen Calligraphy Association, member of the Yan Zhenqing Calligraphy Research Association, Director of Banmo Studio Calligraphy Academy, member of the Shandong Qilu Culture Research Association, calligrapher of the Shandong Red Calligraphy and Painting Academy, and researcher at the Huaxia Poetry, Calligraphy and Painting Art Research Center.
