 Ma Xiaoyuan, pen name Guan Hua, also known as Fuyang Jushi, is from Tengzhou, Shandong, the birthplace of Confucius, Mencius, and Mozi. Born in 1957, he is currently a member of the Chinese Calligraphers and Painters Association, a member of the Shandong Calligraphers Association, and a member of the Chinese Arts and Crafts Association,member of the Zaozhuang Artists Association, member of the Tengzhou Calligraphers Association, and National First-Class Artist.In August 2020, after deliberation by the Organizing Committee of National Gift Artists, Comrade Ma Guanhua was awarded the title of “National Gift Artist”!
    Since childhood, Mr. Guanhua has been deeply passionate about art, especially calligraphy and painting. He apprenticed under the renowned master calligrapher Mr. Li Huating, becoming his first disciple, and also studied under Mr. Ding Fanfu, a celebrated contemporary Chinese artist, Vice Chairman of the Chinese National Studies Association, specially appointed professor at the China Academy of Art, member of the Chinese Poetry Society, and Honorary Chairman of the Contemporary Chinese Art Association.For over fifty years, following his teachers’ guidance, he has persistently practiced calligraphy, focusing on the study of ancient Chinese characters and calligraphic art, laying a solid foundation for his artistic growth, development, and refinement.
    In his long-term study and creative practice, Mr. Guanhua strives to trace back to ancient masters while learning from contemporary excellence, honoring his artistic lineage. He began with Tang dynasty regular script, later transitioning to Wei stele script. He excels in running script, regular script, and cursive script, and later received instruction from the esteemed calligrapher Mr. Wang Xuezhong, greatly enriching his artistic skills.
    Mr. Guanhua’s works have been exhibited at the Shandong Art Museum and the Beijing Working People’s Cultural Palace. He was invited to participate in the First Chinese Engineers’ Calligraphy and Painting Exhibition at the Zhan Tianyou Memorial Hall, the First Chinese Calligraphy Art Festival in Tianjin, the “Communist Calligraphers and Painters Grand Exhibition” hosted by Qiushi Magazine, and international touring exhibitions in China, the United States, Thailand, and Canada, winning multiple awards.
    His biography has been included in authoritative reference books such as Dictionary of Qilu Calligraphers and Painters, Dictionary of Contemporary Young Calligraphers, and Twentieth Century Chinese Calligraphers and Painters. In 1998, he donated calligraphy and painting works for the large-scale charity auction “Chinese Collectible Art Masterpieces for Disaster Relief,” receiving commendations from national government departments and disaster-affected communities. His works have been featured in China Culture Daily and Chinese Calligraphy and Painting Newspaper.His calligraphy work “The Long March” won the Gold Award commemorating the 126th anniversary of Mao Zedong’s birth.
