Zhang Yutan, a native of Anqiu City, Shandong Province, graduated from the Fine Arts Department of Changwei Teachers College in the 1960s. He furthered his studies at Shandong University of Arts from 1982 to 1984. He is a national first-class fine arts designer, member of China Theatre Association, member of China Stage Art Society, member of China International Calligraphy and Painting Art Association, and member of China Elderly Calligraphy and Painting Research Association. He is also a member of Beijing Jiuzhou Calligraphy and Painting Art Research Association, member of Weifang Calligraphers and Painters Friendship Association, vice president of Guofeng Calligraphy and Painting Academy, art advisor of Weifang Oriental Calligraphy and Painting Academy, artistic guidance for Weifang Military-Theme Calligraphy and Painting Art Research Association, art advisor of Qilu Military-Theme Calligraphers Association, art advisor of Weifang Elderly Calligraphy and Painting Research Association, and executive council member of Weifang Calligraphers and Painters Friendship Association.     In 1989, "The Sequel of Li Ershao" won the first prize for stage art design at the Shandong Arts Festival.                                                      1986     "A Small Lane in Jiangnan" won the second prize at the Shandong Landscape Painting Exhibition. In 1990, "Early Spring in the Mountain Village" won the first prize at the Shandong Landscape Painting Exhibition.     In 1995, "The Call of the Roots" won the second prize for stage art design at the Shandong Arts Festival. In 1996, "The Simple Song" won the first prize for stage art design at the Shandong Arts Festival.     In 1998, "Spring Comes to Peach Blossom Village" won the second prize for stage art design at the Shandong Arts Festival.     In 2005, the traditional Chinese painting "Spring Fills the Universe" won the "Outstanding Achievement Award" at the "Prosperous China Cup" Calligraphy and Painting Competition.     He has served as the art director for over 20 large-scale theatrical productions and more than 100 episodes of television series. Among them, the TV series "Zheng Banqiao" won the Chinese Television "Feitian Award," "Happy Age of Seven or Eight" won the Chinese Television "Golden Eagle Award," "Mother Wants to Marry" won the Chinese Television "Golden Eagle Award," and "Celebrating the New Year" won the first prize at the Shandong Provincial Television Awards.     He has served as the chief art designer for the opening ceremonies of eight Weifang International Kite Festivals and was three times awarded by the municipal government as an advanced individual with outstanding contributions to the kite festival.     Numerous works such as "Riding the Tide," "Farewell My Concubine," "Wind and Lotus," "Clouds Divide Mount Taihua," "Heroes of Heaven and Earth," and "Always Laughing" have been included and published in major art collections such as "Chinese Stage Art," "Ancient Nation's Painting Scroll," "Hanmaru Masterpieces Collection," "Chinese Artists," and "Ink and Brush Chronicles." Many of his works have been published in national newspapers and periodicals, and his personal artistic biography has been included in reference books such as "Dictionary of Chinese Dramatists," "Mirror of Chinese Stage Art Designers," and "Chinese Artists."
