 Wang Dianhua, born in 1955, is from Wucheng, Shandong. He formerly served as Director of the Engineering Corps Bureau of the former General Staff Department’s Training and Arms Division, and as a part-time professor at the former PLA University of Science and Technology. He is currently a member of the China Calligraphers Association, Director of the Chinese Large-Character Calligraphy Art Research Institute, Vice President of the Huaheting Calligraphy and Painting Academy of State Organs, President of Qingdao Qiancheng Academy, member of the Shandong Calligraphers Association, and Vice President of the Engineering Corps Calligraphy, Painting and Photography Association. At age 24, he became a correspondent for the People’s Liberation Army Daily, a special correspondent for People’s Engineer magazine, and an outstanding correspondent for the Engineering Corps Newspaper. He is currently a member of the Chinese Poetry Society and a specially invited researcher and judge for military poetry studies at the Red Leaf Poetry Society of the PLA. Wang Dianhua’s calligraphy pursues broad public recognition and appeals to both refined and popular tastes. The renowned calligrapher Ouyang Zhongshi commented on his calligraphy: “Its structure is elegant, brushwork clear and lucid, composition natural, style gorgeous and noble, spirit soaring, and meaning profound.” He has participated in national calligraphy exhibitions over 20 times and won awards; more than 300 of his calligraphy works have been published in over 40 newspapers and periodicals including the PLA Daily and Calligraphy Guide Newspaper; he has edited over 60 regulations and teaching manuals, and published more than 400 poems and essays; he authored “The Calligraphy Collection of Wang Dianhua.” In 2014, he was named one of the “Fourth Annual Most Popular Online Artists in China.” In recent years, his calligraphy works have entered the auction market and have been successfully auctioned by Beijing Poly, Hanhai, and Huifeng Auction Companies, and are now extensively collected by collectors.
