Qu Dingfan, styled "Mingshi" and "Xiwen," is the 71st-generation descendant of Qu Yuan. Passionate about fine arts since childhood, he won the third prize in the Qingdao Middle School Students Art Competition in 1970. Currently, he serves as a council member of the China Oriental Culture Research Association, a member of the China Hard Pen Calligraphy Association, a member of the Qingdao Artists Association, a member of the Laoshan Taoist Painting and Calligraphy Academy, a National First-Class Artist, Director of the China-Korea Cultural Exchange Center, and President of the Oriental Laoshan Academy, as well as Vice President of the Qingdao Mencius Culture
Research Association and Honorary President of the Qingdao Hanmo Art Research Institute.
His works have been guided by renowned painter Ba Shan and personally instructed by masters Xu Jun, Li Xiaosong, Lu Yushun, Lu Hongming, and Liu Jihong. He has successively won the second prize in the Third China Traditional Culture Summit Forum and Famous Artists’ Painting and Calligraphy Exhibition jointly organized by the China Oriental Culture Research Association and the China-US Artists Association; third prizes in the Second, Third, and Fourth Healthy China Famous Artists’ Painting and Calligraphy Exhibitions; and the Special Prize in the 2018 National Poetry, Calligraphy, and Painting Exhibition. His works have been included in the "Representative Works Library of Contemporary Chinese Writers and Calligraphers and Painters." In June 2016, he led a delegation of more than ten renowned artists to the Korean National Assembly Building to hold a China-Korea joint exhibition. In May 2017, he hosted over forty Korean artists and successfully held a painting and calligraphy exhibition in Qingdao with remarkable results.
