Personal Profile
Zhang Aiguo, studio names: Shigu Caotang, Yuxin Tang, native of Heze, Shandong — the “Peony Capital of China”. From childhood, he followed family teachings and developed a passion for calligraphy. For over thirty years, he has persistently practiced calligraphy without interruption. He specializes in clerical script and also studies seal carving. His clerical script draws inspiration from the Qin and Han dynasties, modeling after masterpieces such as “Liqi Stele,” “Zhang Qian Stele,” “Xianyu Huang Stele,” “Shimen Song,” and “Kaitong Baoxie Dao.” His characters are ancient and unrefined in form, with richly varied brushstrokes, appealing to both refined and popular tastes.
Currently, he serves as Executive Director of the Chinese Grain Calligraphers Association, Member of the Calligraphy Art Committee of China United Academy of Painting, Member of the Shandong Calligraphers Association, Member of the Heze Calligraphers Association, Member of Caozhou Seal Society, and Calligraphy Mentor for Heze Daily’s Young Journalists Growth Program.
His works have been repeatedly published in newspapers and journals such as “China Calligraphy and Painting Newspaper,” “Guoyun,” “Qiushi Luncong,” “Shandong Archives,” and “Heze Daily,” and have been collected by the National Development and Reform Commission and the State Administration of Grain.

2006, exhibited in the Shandong-Henan Two Provinces Calligraphy Exchange Exhibition;
2009, Bronze Award in the 2nd National Grain System Calligraphy and Painting Exhibition;
2011, Third Prize in the “Shengda Cup” Lan Tai Calligraphy Competition;
2011, Silver Award in the 3rd National Grain System Calligraphy and Painting Exhibition;
2012, exhibited in the 1st “Peony Award” Shandong Calligraphy Biennale;
2013, featured in a special edition of “Guoyun” by the State Organs Working Committee;
2014, exhibited in the “Virtuous Shandong” Calligraphy and Painting Exhibition organized by Shandong Calligraphers Association and Artists Association;
2016, Second Prize in the National Development and Reform System Staff Calligraphy and Painting Exhibition;
2017, Gold Award in the 4th National Grain System Calligraphy and Painting Exhibition;
2018, exhibited in the 4th “Peony Award” Shandong Calligraphy Biennale;
2019, exhibited in the 2nd “Li Ronghai Art Foundation Calligraphy Award” Exhibition.
