Personal Profile
Yang Shide, male, born in 1969 in Huainan, Anhui, with ancestral roots in Shandong, the cultural capital and hometown of Confucius. He has been passionate about calligraphy, painting, and seal carving since childhood. As a teenager, he chanced upon the芥子园画谱 (Mustard Seed Garden Manual of Painting) and became utterly absorbed in it. Despite being occupied by work over the years, he has never ceased practicing calligraphy. Initially studying Yan Zhenqing’s style, he later turned to Han dynasty clerical script, and has now developed his own distinctive style. In painting, he specializes in plum blossoms, orchids, bamboo, and chrysanthemums—particularly excelling in bamboo and river shrimp.
He began studying Han dynasty seals and works by masters such as Zhao Zhiqian during his youth, and his current seal-carving style is unique. He studied under the renowned Chinese calligrapher and painter, National First-Class Artist Mr. Zhang Puling, as well as under the celebrated Chinese painter, Vice President of the Chinese Academy of Painting and Calligraphy, and Member of the Anhui Provincial Government’s Institute of History and Culture, Mr. Dai Dengke. Under the long-term guidance and influence of his teachers, he gradually developed his own distinctive artistic style. His works are fresh, elegant, and highly collectible.
Currently holds the positions of: Academician of the Chinese Academy of Painting and Calligraphy, Member of the Chinese Calligraphers and Painters Association, Vice President of Jiuzhou Academy of Painting and Calligraphy in Huainan, Anhui, Member of the Huainan Calligraphers Association in Anhui, Member of the Anhui Youth Artists Association, and Director of the Huainan Youth Artists Association in Anhui.
