Personal Profile
Xu Qinguo, born in 1972, is a native of Tancheng, Shandong. He studied under teachers such as Sun Dongguang, Tian Guoqing, Liu Yanbin, and Feng Mengbai. He is currently a member of the Shandong Provincial Calligraphy and Painting Society and the Linyi Calligraphers Association. Since childhood, he has been fond of calligraphy, painting, seal carving, and poetry, and for decades he has never ceased practicing, never slackening his efforts. He often paints subjects such as peonies, bamboo, grapes, lotus flowers, and chicks. His works are rooted in tradition and inspired by nature. While learning from ancient masters, he also follows the progress of the times, tracing back to masters such as Qingteng, Baiyang, Bada, Changshuo, and Baishi, from whom he has gained deep insights. He skillfully complements his paintings with self-composed poems as inscriptions, varying the length of the inscriptions according to the mood of the painting, allowing his inner feelings, artistic conception, poetic atmosphere, and visual imagery to harmonize beautifully. His works are concise and decisive; he uses inscriptions to enhance the atmosphere and dares to leave blank spaces—just a few brushstrokes on a small canvas can evoke the vastness of heaven and earth, and the emptiness beyond the painted area becomes a realm of profound beauty. With merely two or three strokes, the spirit and charm emerge fully.
