Artistic Career:
Since childhood, he has diligently practiced calligraphy and painting, devoting himself to artistic cultivation day after day for decades. He studied the masters of the Song and Yuan dynasties, followed the traditions of the Northern and Southern schools, and also explored classical poetry, epigraphy, and stele rubbings. In his early years, he received initial instruction from renowned Heze artists such as Zhang Qi and Xu Zhenkai. Later, he was admitted to the Art Department of Heze Teachers College and the Art Education Department of Shandong Normal University, where he had the privilege of receiving guidance from esteemed teachers including Dong Zhou, Cheng Hongfu, Zhou Tie, Wang Jin, Yan Jianguo, and Zhang Zhimin. He systematically studied the brushwork essence of masters from the Song, Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties, beginning with theories and critiques of painting to comprehensively master traditional Chinese brush and ink techniques. Balancing tradition with nature, he organically integrated the two, learning from the ancients without being confined by them, engaging with the world while transcending vulgarity. Building upon copying classical works, he emphasized sketching and memory drawing, incorporating calligraphic techniques into painting. His brushwork is vigorous and vivid, bold yet rustic, yet retains an elegant and refined charm, achieving the poetic realm where “poetry resides within painting, and painting embodies poetry.” Such literati-style painting cannot be appreciated by the common crowd.
