Personal Profile
Fan Qingcang, studio name: Mobaoxuan. A leading figure in art of the new era. Born in Yuncheng, Shandong, the hometown of the Water Margin, graduated from the Advanced Calligraphy Research Class of Beijing Normal University. Member of the China Calligraphers Association, member of the China International Calligraphers Association, and director of the China Calligraphy Society for Middle-aged and Elderly People. Has loved literature and painting since childhood, specializing in studying the scripts of Yan, Liu, Ouyang, and Zhao, drawing strengths from each master to form his own unique style, particularly excelling in running and cursive scripts. For decades, he has never ceased practicing brushwork; every stroke and lift reveals the demeanor of a true master. Skilled at integrating ink-wash painting techniques into calligraphy, diversifying artistic expression, thereby enhancing the depth and three-dimensionality of his works. His style is distinctive, with vivid ink rhythm, achieving the ideal of “calligraphy and painting sharing the same origin.” In recent years, he has traveled nationwide seeking knowledge and guidance, studying under numerous renowned masters and receiving authentic instruction from several. His calligraphy appeals to both refined and popular tastes: small characters are exquisitely delicate and spiritually soothing, flowing like clouds and water, blending ancient style with modern charm; large works are grand and majestic, combining softness with strength, balancing hardness and suppleness, with refined composition and natural Daoist aesthetics, offering viewers a beautiful aesthetic experience. His works have been reported by multiple media outlets, exhibited nationwide, and awarded prizes. In 2017, a four-foot work titled “Success Upon Arrival” was sold for 8,800 RMB at an auction in Beijing. His works have been included in publications such as “Collection of Outstanding Works,” “Award-winning Works from the Third National Symposium on Calligraphy and Painting Creation by Middle-aged and Elderly Artists,” and “BoYiXuan Cup.” In 2018, on the 40th anniversary of China’s reform and opening-up, he was honored by the China Popular Culture Society as “A Leading Figure in Chinese Calligraphy Art.” Jointly by the China Popular Culture Society, China International Post Network, and postal and telecommunications departments, a large-scale documentary commemorative stamp album was published nationwide, featuring twelve of his works printed on twelve Chinese postage stamps.  His works have been collected by domestic and international collectors, entrepreneurs, and individuals from all walks of life.
