Duan Wencai (art name—Liu Le, studio name: Penglai Mountain Hermit), artist and calligrapher, National First-Class Artist and National First-Class Calligrapher. Born in 1964 in Shandong Penglai, graduated from the Central Academy of Fine Arts, studied under Ouyang Zhongshi and Fan Zeng, disciple of Ouyang Zhongshi and formal disciple of Fan Zeng. Currently serves as member of the China Artists Association, member of the China Calligraphers Association, committee member of the Art Committee of the Chinese Academy of Painting and Calligraphy, member of the China International Calligraphy and Painting Association, researcher at the Cultural Research Center of the China International Calligraphy and Painting Academy, council member of the People's Art Collection Council, council member of the China Nationalities Calligraphers and Painters Association, member of the China Calligraphy Teaching and Research Association, committee member of the Professional Committee for Cultural and Artistic Exchange of the China Collectors Association, committee member of the China-Korea Cultural and Art Experts Committee, committee member of the Academic Committee of Basic Art Education in China, member of the China Extracurricular Education Society, artistic advisor of the CCTV Academy of Painting and Calligraphy, vice president of the China Academy of Painting and Calligraphy, painter at the Sichuan Chinese Painting Academy, and specially appointed painter at the Beijing Tangfeng Art Museum. Currently holds the position of professor at the Central Academy of Fine Arts and chief professor at the Qilu Academy of Art.
His works have been exhibited multiple times in the China Fine Arts and Calligraphy Masterpieces Overseas Eight-Nation Touring Exhibition, won the bronze award at the Third China Arts Festival Painting and Calligraphy Exhibition and at the First China Calligraphy and Painting Artists’ Fine Art Exhibition, received the National and International Special Gold Award from the Ministry of Culture, and won the bronze award at the “Sons of the East” Calligraphy and Painting Competition. Numerous works have been collected by renowned individuals both domestically and internationally, as well as by friends from Japan, France, the United States, South Korea, Canada, Hong Kong, Singapore, and other regions. Nearly one hundred artworks have been selected for overseas exhibitions and presented as gifts to heads of state and overseas Chinese community leaders in multiple countries and regions. He has been honored with titles such as “World Outstanding Chinese Artist,” “Artist of Noble Virtue and Artistic Excellence,” “World-renowned Calligraphy and Painting Artist,” and “Special Envoy of China-Europe Cultural and Art Exchange.”
His works have been repeatedly selected for inclusion in the Invitational Exhibition of Famous Chinese Calligraphers and Painters, and his biography has been compiled into multiple authoritative publications including “Who’s Who in the World of Chinese Literature and Art,” “Selected Works of Chinese Calligraphy and Painting by Overseas Chinese,” “Classic Works of Famous Chinese Calligraphers and Painters,” “Flowers of the Nation—Artists of the Republic,” “Essence of Chinese National Calligraphy and Painting,” “Collection of Modern Chinese Art Masterpieces,” “Dictionary of Famous Chinese Yanhuang Calligraphers and Painters,” “Compendium of Contemporary Chinese Poetry, Calligraphy and Painting Talents,” “Luminaries of the Asian Art World,” and “Famous Contemporary Chinese Artists.”
His representative work “The Majesty of a King” was collected by the French head of state at the Fourth France Paris “China Cultural and Art Exchange Exhibition” for 10,000 U.S. dollars per square foot.
