Born into a scholarly family, he began learning painting and calligraphy under his father’s guidance from an early age. He received personal instruction from renowned artists such as Wang Xiaogu, Pi Zhixian, and Qin Ruwen, establishing a solid foundation in painting. In his early years, he focused on oil painting and developed profound sketching skills. In recent years, deeply moved by the boundless charm and profound depth of traditional Chinese painting, he innovatively combined the light-and-shadow techniques of oil painting with the expressive brushwork of Chinese ink painting, pursuing a naturally aesthetic painting style and initiating his own distinctive school. His cicada-themed series integrates the light-and-shadow effects of oil painting while emphasizing the expressive spirit of Chinese ink painting. He is acclaimed as the foremost master of cicada painting and has conducted extensive research and created numerous works in traditional landscape, flower-and-bird, and figure painting.
