Zhao Wensheng, styled Mingde, known as the Master of Guixiang Studio.
Shandong Province, Ju County native.
Born in August 1966. Holds a university degree, graduated from the Naval Political College of the People's Liberation Army Navy.
Enlisted in October 1986.
From January 1987 to August 1988, served as a clerk in the First Naval Training Regiment.
From September 1988 to August 1989, served as a projectionist and propagandist in the Second Naval Engineering District, during which time published over 30 cover design works in the People's Navy Newspaper and the Qingdao Daily.
From September 1989 to July 1992, while studying at the Naval Political College, published over 20 cover design works in the People's Navy Newspaper. Collaborated with Professors Zhang Qiumin and Sun Wenhua of the Naval Political College to compile and illustrate the book "Art of Squad Blackboard News," published by Hai Chao Publishing House and distributed throughout the entire military. In May 1992, his watercolor painting "Building a Sea Great Wall" won first prize in a painting exhibition organized by the Naval Political College.
In 2008, his work "Fish Picture," created for the Qingdao Municipal Discipline Inspection Commission's Clean Culture Painting Exhibition, won first prize.
Since August 1992, upon joining the workforce, he has published over 300 design and painting works in various newspapers and magazines. Many of his works have been included in the "Qingdao Clean Culture Series." His poetry has been published on more than 100 media platforms.
His painting style draws inspiration from nature, inherits traditional methods, transcends contemporary constraints, and is unbound by personal emotions—simple yet refined, revealing wonder within form and innovation within composition. He integrates nature into ink and wash, forging his own path of innovation. In recent years, he has primarily focused on flower-and-bird and animal subjects, employing vivid brushwork and rich imagination to create lifelike, dynamic paintings that offer viewers profound aesthetic pleasure both visually and spiritually.
Zhao Wensheng has never ceased writing, composing over four thousand classical-style poems with passionate enthusiasm and poetic romanticism, singing the greatness of the motherland, depicting the majesty of mountains and rivers, capturing the profundity of human history, and celebrating the renewal of spring, summer, autumn, and winter. Whether depicting individuals, events, flowers, or grasses, each piece conveys genuine emotion and profound Zen-like depth.
Zhao Wensheng has achieved considerable mastery not only in poetry and painting but also in the study of traditional Chinese culture and traditional Chinese medicine.
