Teng Shoucheng
Personal Profile
Teng Shoucheng, style name Wange, has loved calligraphy, traditional Chinese painting, and seal carving since childhood. He has diligently studied and practiced these arts for over thirty years, meticulously copying dozens of ancient rubbings, thus laying a solid foundation and refining his skills. Through his dedicated research, his calligraphy excels in running and cursive scripts, drawing widely on the strengths of various stele and manuscript traditions, while paying close attention to the rustic and unadorned charm of masters such as Huaisu and Zhang Xu, assimilating and transforming these influences into a distinctive personal style. His seal carving is inspired by Wu Changshuo and Qi Baishi, incorporating elements from seal clay, tile inscriptions, and brick carvings, resulting in a style that is rich, robust, and freely expressive, with heightened aesthetic and artistic appeal. Teng Shoucheng’s calligraphy and seal carving works have been featured in numerous major art exhibitions both domestically and internationally, earning widespread acclaim; his works have been repeatedly published in newspapers and magazines. His calligraphy is especially popular and cherished in Japan, while his traditional Chinese paintings are also highly appreciated in the United States and Southeast Asia.
