      Shi Guoqing was born in November 1970. His secular name is Fu Qingxun; his occupation is abbot and painter-calligrapher; his educational background is a Master’s degree in Fine Arts. His Dharma name is Shang Guo Xia Qing, and his followers refer to him as Venerable Shi Guoqing. He is from Anhui Province, China. At the age of seven, he began diligently practicing painting and calligraphy under family influence and guidance from renowned masters. In his childhood, he trained in martial arts at the Shaolin Monastery in Henan Songshan and was deeply influenced by Buddhist teachings. In 1983, he was ordained as a monk under the guidance of Venerable Hui Kai at Qiyuan Temple on Jiuhua Mountain. In 2000, he was invited to serve as abbot of Jingtu Temple in the Nanchang Economic & Technological Development Zone. In 2014, he made a vow to lead the preparation and reconstruction of Laojuntan Foguang Temple.He has established more than 40 Buddhist centers nationwide and founded art associations, academies of painting and calligraphy, and Buddhist missionary institutions. As chief of the Shaolin Warrior Monk Corps, he led the Shaolin Monastery Warrior Monk Corps on overseas tours to more than ten countries.
