Huang Jianjun
Huang Jianjun, born in August 1960 in Nanchang, Jiangxi, also known as Master of Buyi Studio. He specializes in a blend of running and cursive script, with a distinctive personal style characterized by rhythmic variations in line thickness, elegant, fluid, and grand characters. For decades, he has persistently practiced calligraphy, drawing inspiration from the paintings and calligraphy of ancient cultural masters, continuously learning, pursuing, and improving, thereby developing his own unique style. He is currently a member of the China Calligraphers Association, a member of the Nanchang City Artists Association in Jiangxi, a member of the Jiangxi Provincial Calligraphers Association, a academician of the Jiangxi Tiejun Calligraphy and Painting Academy, an academician of the Dongfanghong Calligraphy and Painting Academy, a creative academician of the Nanchang Calligraphy Academy, a standing director of the Nanchang Qing Shan Hu Overseas Chinese Association Calligraphy and Painting Art Exchange Association, a council member of the China Traditional Culture Poetry, Calligraphy, and Painting Association, Beijing Oriental Hanlin Calligraphy and Painting Academy Honorary Consultant, Beijing Yanhuang Calligraphy and Painting Academy Honorary President, an expert committee member of the Calligraphy and Painting Art Professional Committee of the China Popular Culture Society, and Honorary President of the Beijing Yihai Danqing Calligraphy and Painting Academy, among others.
He has won numerous major awards in national calligraphy and painting competitions. He received the Gold Award in the commemorative calligraphy and painting competition marking the 30th anniversary of the publication of “Practice is the Sole Criterion for Testing Truth” (1978–2008), and his work was included in the book “Modern Calligraphy and Painting: Thirty Years of Masterpieces,” distributed both domestically and internationally. He won the Gold Award in the national calligraphy and painting competition commemorating the 115th anniversary of Mao Zedong’s birth, and the Gold Award in the large-scale Chinese calligraphy and painting competition celebrating the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China; his works were collected in authoritative anthologies and he was honored with the title “Master of Chinese Artistic Circle.” He received the Gold Award in the national calligraphy and painting competition commemorating the 65th anniversary of the victory in the War of Resistance Against Japan, and his work was included in the major art historical compilation “Monument: Collection of Masterpieces by Chinese Middle-aged and Elderly Calligraphers and Painters,” and was awarded the title “Contemporary Chinese Meritorious Artist.”
In 2013, at the invitation of the China Traditional Culture Poetry, Calligraphy, and Painting Association, he participated in the public welfare calligraphy and painting event celebrating the successful manned spaceflight of “Shenzhou-10.” His calligraphy entry won the Gold Award. After touring exhibitions in more than ten countries including South Korea, Singapore, France, Sweden, and Canada, his work was auctioned for charity at the Hong Kong International Trade Center, with nearly ten thousand yuan in proceeds donated entirely to a Hope Elementary School. He was awarded the title “Lifetime Artistic Achievement Award for Chinese Manned Spaceflight Calligrapher” and “Chinese Charity Calligraphy Art Ambassador.”
In 2013, his calligraphy works were published in the art special issue of Hong Kong’s “Collection World,” and his artistic biography was included in the “Biographical Dictionary of Famous Figures in Contemporary Chinese Calligraphy, Painting, and Seal Carving.” That same year, he was named one of the “Prominent Figures in Chinese Contemporary Realist Calligraphy Auction” in celebration of the successful convening of the Third Plenary Session of the 18th CPC Central Committee.
In 2016, his work was included in the thematic “China Post Album” commemorating the 95th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China.
