Sheng Changsong grew up in the countryside of Baoying, Jiangsu. As a child, he was influenced by his grandfather to fall in love with calligraphy. His grandfather passed away when he was three years old, and he only remembered his grandfather's silhouette and had never seen him writing calligraphy. At the age of seven, after seeing his grandfather's calligraphy left behind on the roof beam of his house, he became passionately addicted to calligraphy. He officially started copying calligraphy in the third grade of primary school. At the age of 17, during the summer vacation, he visited relatives in Yixing and had the opportunity to get in touch with Zisha. He became fascinated with Zisha calligraphy carving and fell in love with this industry. He made a firm belief that his future life would be dedicated to this profession. After becoming an adult, he wanted to become a calligrapher, painter, and ceramic artist. At the age of 22, he worked in a painting workshop in Yangzhou for 15 months, and at the age of 23, he went to Beijing to study Chinese painting at the Chinese Academy of Arts. He lived in Beijing for two years and then returned to Yixing. In 2008, he bought a house in Dingshu, Yixing, and established a studio. In his later artistic career, he was very diligent and hardworking, always firmly adhering to his beliefs. He said he must achieve something. From 2011 to 2018, within seven years, he participated in multiple exhibitions and won awards from the Chinese Calligraphers Association, provincial calligraphers association, and city ceramic association. More and more people began to pay attention to him, and his circle of friends and collectors gradually increased. Initially, his works were ignored, but after becoming famous, his Zisha works were in high demand, and they became hot items in many auction houses. Looking back on his life, there is a sense of hardship, but Sheng Changsong takes it all lightly. He said that in the future, he will focus his career on creation. Artists should create works with heart, while the market should be handled by merchants, leaving better things for people to appreciate.
