He Mingyao: Zi Mingzhi, Hao Yandalang Ren, native place Zhejiang Wenzhou, born in Nanjing in 1954. He has been interested in painting and calligraphy since childhood. In middle school, he studied ink painting with the senior painters Xu Daozhi and Dong Bo of the Jinling art circle, and learned calligraphy from Chen Shenzhi. Later, he was a student of Professor Liu Ruli, a senior professor at Nanjing University of Arts, and became a disciple of the great master Xu Beihong. During this time, he also received guidance from famous teachers such as Lu Yanshou and Ya Ming. He paints both ancient and modern figures, as well as detailed and free-style birds, flowers, and plants, but is especially skilled in expressive landscape paintings. The two main characteristics of He Mingyao's landscape paintings are that on the trees and rocks of high mountains, clouds flow and floating clouds mingle with hazy mists. With the use of ink wash or simple brushstrokes, they create a scenery that is refreshing and pleasant. His depiction of the mist and clouds drifting between the peaks shows only ethereal white clouds, using the movement of the clouds to highlight the immovable green mountains, thereby depicting the grandeur and depth of the mountains. His painted cypresses have twisted branches and lush canopies, full of the vitality of heaven and earth, and their supple and powerful forms reveal the miraculous beauty of nature. He pays attention to expressing the texture of rocks and stones, leaving white spaces in the full composition, creating a striking contrast and a lively rhythm. His paintings are filled with a bold and unrestrained spirit, almost reaching the realm of "the nature of the mountain is my nature, the sentiment of the mountain is my sentiment." We can feel the artist's creative state and spiritual atmosphere, and more importantly, the breadth of mind and character of the painter. Each of his paintings, from composition to form, is unique. They reflect the endless charm of the green mountains and also demonstrate the painter's profound artistic accomplishment.
