Cui Shifang, who has a passion for horses and painting horses, is known as "the Horse Herder," a poet and painter. He was born in Baoding, Hebei in 1941, and now resides in Suzhou. He is currently a member of the Board of the China Calligraphy and Painting Association, a member of the Jiangsu Poetry Association, an art consultant of the Jiangnan Calligraphy and Painting Art Research Institute and the Jiangsu Province Youth Calligraphy and Painting Art Training Base, Honorary Chairman of the Suzhou Lujiang Calligraphy and Painting Association, a member of the Board of the Zhongyi Calligraphy and Painting Academy, a member of the Shuangta Calligraphy and Painting Association, a member of the Wumen Yaji Association, a member of the Xinhu Calligraphy and Painting Academy, and the President of the Urban Culture Garden Society. Mr. Cui Shifang has a broad range of painting styles, especially excelling in painting horses, peonies, and plum blossoms. He has been guided by famous Chinese painting masters Huang Zhi and Zhang Jixin, a master of freehand flower-and-bird painting of the Wu School. He also studied under Professor Huang Yiqi, former honorary chairman of the Ganzhou Art Association in Jiangxi, and Zhao Xuchu, a renowned calligrapher from Liaoning. For decades, he has continuously practiced painting, integrating the northern and southern styles to form his own unique artistic style. His works are grand and magnificent, distinctive and unique. Each painting is accompanied by a self-written poem, with the inscription being as if written by a divine hand, the poetry adding the finishing touch to the painting, making the poetry, calligraphy, and painting perfectly integrated, which is truly exceptional. Since 1957, he has published poems in newspapers and magazines, and has published several poetry collections and art collections of Cui Shifang. He has held multiple individual exhibitions of poetry, calligraphy, and painting, including a 66-meter long calligraphy scroll (with 150 self-composed poems) and an 8-meter long "Hundred Horses Scroll" (displayed and hung in the broadcasting hall of the Asia Television Station in Singapore). Some of his poems have been included in the "Chinese Contemporary Poets' Birthday Encyclopedia," and "Three Galloping Horses" and "Red Plum Welcoming Spring" have been included in the book "Chinese Calligraphy and Painting Classics" published by the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles. He inscribed the plaque for the He Ming Temple in Ningbo, and his works are collected by various institutions and individuals. He has participated in various calligraphy and painting competitions and has won many awards.
