Personal Profile

Xu Lei, courtesy name Yutian, pseudonym Qiji Hall Master. He is currently the President of Xuzhou Xu Beihong Art Research Association, and a specially appointed professor at China University of Mining and Technology. Born in July 1962 in Xuzhou, Jiangsu, known as the "Five Provinces' Crossroads", he comes from a family of scholars and has been immersed in calligraphy and painting since childhood. In 1981, he studied at the Department of Chinese Painting of Nanjing Institute of Arts, where he was initially taught by renowned art educators Xu Chaocan and Liu Cheng. Since the early 1980s, he has been engaged in art education, and has long been committed to the study and creation of Chinese painting and calligraphy. He has successively learned from Mr. Xu Chao廷, Lei Sheng, Liang Longba, Sun Jinqing and others. Deeply admiring Master Xu Beihong, he has carefully studied Xu Beihong's horse painting techniques, and later became a disciple of Xu Beihong's disciples. He was taught by Mr. Liao Jingwen, the wife of Master Xu Beihong and the director of Xu Beihong Memorial Hall. Mr. Xu has spent decades working tirelessly through all seasons, and finally achieved remarkable skills and refined brushwork. He has published several art albums, including "Xu Lei's Art Collection" with a dedication by the famous Chinese calligrapher and scholar Qi Gong. His works have been selected for national, provincial, and municipal art exhibitions and competitions, and have won awards. They have also been exhibited in France, the United States, Canada, Russia, and Taiwan, and are widely collected by art institutions and collectors. Former Minister of Culture He Jingzhi has inscribed "Xu Lei's Artworks". Master Yutian not only devotes himself to the inheritance of traditional culture and national treasures; he also actively participates in public welfare, promoting the spirit of Master Xu Beihong and the value and connotation of his artworks. He does his best for the spread of culture, the cultivation of talents, and the nourishment of society with positive energy.
