Wang Youguang, pen name Shiqi Huasheng, also known as Master of Shizhu Studio, was born in 1936 in Xiangtan, Hunan. A member of the Communist Party of China, he graduated successively from Fudan University in Shanghai and the Air Force Academy. He formerly served as Chief of Staff in a unit of the Air Force and as a professor. Introduced to classical private education from childhood, he practiced the calligraphic styles of Liu Gongquan and Yan Zhenqing, later specializing in bird-and-flower painting with additional work in landscape art. He has held multiple exhibitions in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Shanghai, Chengdu, Jiangsu, and other places. His works have won the Gold Award at the China Calligraphy and Painting Masters Exchange Exhibition in Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand; the Gold Award at the Shanghai World Expo International Exchange Exhibition; the Outstanding Award at the 16th Guangzhou International Art Fair; the National Intangible Cultural Art Inheritance Gold Award; and jointly with master Huang Yongyu and three others, received the Gold Prize of the China Art Golden Image Award. His artworks have been included in publications such as Collection of Award-winning Works of China Art Golden Image Award, Collection of Art Masterpieces from the 16th Guangzhou International Art Fair, The Chinese Artists Dictionary, Shanghai World Expo Bilingual (Chinese-English) Encyclopedia of Chinese Calligraphy and Painting Masters, and Collection of Contemporary Chinese Artists' Fine Works. He has published books including Wang Youguang's Calligraphy and Painting Collection and Wang Youguang's Works Collection. He has been honored with titles such as "Chinese World Expo Calligraphy and Painting Master," "Chinese Virtuous and Artistic Distinguished Artist," "Cultural Exchange Envoy between China and Foreign Countries," "National Cultural Celebrity," and "National Intangible Cultural Art Inheritor." In 2018, after recommendation and selection by more than a thousand institutions including literary and art societies, art galleries, and publishers across the country, and through comprehensive evaluation jointly conducted by the Ministry of Culture, the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, and online media, Wang Youguang, together with Huang Yongyu, Jin Shangyi, and three other artists, was awarded the titles of "International Gold Medal Literary and Art Creator" and "Chinese Master Craftsman—China Art Grandmaster." His works, along with those of Fan Zeng, Shen Peng, and Wu Dongmin, were recognized as the most valuable contemporary artworks for collection.
