Personal Profile
Liu Ruyi, from Anhua, Hunan, retired from the military with the rank of deputy regimental commander, studied under Wu Jingshan, President of the renowned painter and China Qi Baishi Art Research Institute. He is currently a council member of the Artists Association of the China Qi Baishi Art Research Institute and the Executive President of the China Qi Baishi Art Research Institute. A distinguished Chinese artist and master of Chinese artistic heritage. Liu Ruyi has always adhered to the philosophy of "Love to the extreme, achieve to the extreme." He achieved remarkable accomplishments during his 25-year military career and has also made significant contributions across diverse fields such as music, photography, and calligraphy. He began self-studying painting in 2008 and has diligently practiced every single day since then—no matter how demanding his work, he would complete at least one artwork. This unwavering commitment spanned nearly ten years and over 4,000 consecutive days. He particularly enjoys painting shrimp, extensively studying and absorbing the strengths of master artists' works, and maintaining shrimp for long-term observation of their habits. He has summarized the "Shrimp's Aspiration"—resilient survival despite humble circumstances; the "Shrimp's Virtue"—rising above filth to uphold purity; the "Shrimp's Joy"—playful, agile, and free-spirited; the "Shrimp's Benevolence"—harmonious, friendly, mutually supportive, and modest; and the "Shrimp's Fortune"—symbolizing abundance and fulfillment, infusing his artworks with soul and vitality. On October 25, 2018, he became a disciple of Master Wu, a second-generation inheritor of Qi Baishi’s art, and received the evaluation: "Highly perceptive with a solid foundation." Under the guidance of this master, he has flourished like a dragon returning to the sea, achieving remarkable progress. He has successively won the Gold Award at the 2018 International Qi Baishi Art Cup Painting and Calligraphy Tour Exhibition and the Gold Award at the 2019 Belt and Road Calligraphy Grand Prize Competition. In 2019, he was honored with the title of "Master of Chinese Artistic Heritage" and the title of "Outstanding Chinese Artist."
