Fang Changxi, Vice Chairman of the International Art Alliance, Minister of Innovation and Development at China Energy Engineering Group, Deputy Secretary-General of the China-Germany Cross-Border Trade Federation, Executive Vice President of the Overseas Chinese Business Cultural Promotion Association of the China General Art and Culture Association, Guangdong Deputy Director of Yuehai Calligraphy and Painting Academy, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Calligraphy and Painting, Council Member of the China Calligraphers and Painters Association, Member of the China Artists Association, Member of the Financial Branch of the China Calligraphers Association, Council Member of Singapore’s “Star China International Fine Arts”, Member of the China Art Association, Member of the China Art Salon, Member of the Fujian Calligraphers Association, Founder of the Chinese Calligraphy-Chan Series Buddhist Culture (currently applying for recognition as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage of China). Recently, his calligraphy works were presented as state gifts to German Chancellor Angela Merkel and three mayors, and have been collected by the China Archives. Additionally, his copy of the character “Fu” (blessing) inscribed by Emperor Kangxi for his grandmother has been collected by Lieutenant General Fang Cancheng, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Cambodia’s Three Armed Forces. His Mao-style calligraphy pieces “The Long March” and “Qingpingyue” have been collected by the Organizing Committee of the Memorial Event for the 122nd Anniversary of Mao Zedong’s Birth, and were awarded by State Council Special Envoy Minister Liu Ji. The work “The Long March” has also been collected by Thai Minister of Culture Fang Muhui. In December 2014, he organized a grand event commemorating the 121st anniversary of Mao Zedong’s birth, featuring 121 generals collectively writing a 121-meter-long calligraphy scroll (application submitted for Guinness World Record). He was recently honored as one of the “2016 China Good Brand · Most Influential Art Figures.” In May, a special feature on him appeared in the official newspaper of Heze City, Shandong Province (distributed nationwide), the hometown of China’s First Lady. Simultaneously, his Calligraphy-Chan Series artworks and Mao-style calligraphy were included by the U.S. Philatelic Group in the “Commemorative Stamp Album for the 37th Anniversary of Sino-U.S. Diplomatic Relations,” and selected for inclusion in the four-volume “Commemorative Stamp Album for the 80th Anniversary of the Long March Victory and the 95th Anniversary of the Founding of the Communist Party of China.” He also received the title “Loving Artist” from the “Fourth China Role Model Forum” organized by the Communist Youth League Central Committee. Mr. Fang’s Buddhist artwork “Child Paying Homage to Guanyin” won the Silver Award in the 2016 “China Jiuhua Mountain International Buddhist Culture & Chan Design Competition,” hosted by the China Society of Arts and Crafts (with over 2,000 participating artisans). In 2017, he became the first person ever named “China Brand Influence Art Figure.” Many of his recent works have been incorporated into commemorative postage stamps for the 19th National Congress of the CPC. At the 19th Strait两岸 Trade Fair EU Pavilion, more than twenty classic Mao-style calligraphy pieces were exhibited, generating strong international response. In July 2017, the official website of Heze City, Shandong—the hometown of China’s First Lady—again prominently featured and promoted him. On July 15, 2017, at the National Library in Beijing, the Minister of Culture and the Minister of Posts awarded him honors for multiple works selected for the 19th National Congress commemorative stamp collection and two works included in a calligraphy exhibition. On July 25, 2017, Fang Changxi, alongside Chairman of the China Calligraphers Association Su Shushu and others, traveled to Japan to participate in the commemorative calligraphy and painting exhibition marking the 45th anniversary of the normalization of Sino-Japanese diplomatic relations; two of his Mao-style calligraphy works were exhibited, holding profound significance.
