Gan Zhi: Born in 1950 in Wuhan, Hubei, he is an expert member of the World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, one of China's Six Great Calligraphers, a National First-Class Calligrapher, a member of the Calligraphy and Painting Branch of the Hubei Collectors Association, and a council member of the China Art Collectors Association.
In September 2013, he was rated alongside Li Guo, Shen Peng, Ouyang Zhongshi, and Wang Xuezhong as one of China's Six Great Calligraphers with the Greatest Collectible Potential on the 60th Anniversary of the Founding of the People's Republic of China. His works have been featured in the China Post's "Contemporary Danqing" series of postage stamps and were invited to be included in the Calligraphy Volume published by Tianjin Fine Arts Publishing House; his works have been selected multiple times for national and provincial exhibitions and have frequently appeared in contemporary calligraphy and painting masterpieces auctions; in 1998, he won the Gold Award in the Hubei "Hongyan Cup" Calligraphy Competition; in 2002, he won the Gold Award in the Hubei "Chutian Cultural and Art Cup" Calligraphy Competition; in October 2003, he received the Bronze Award in the First Staff Art Festival organized by the China Calligraphers Association and the All-China Federation of Trade Unions; in June 2016, his calligraphy works were included in the "Masterpieces of Chinese Calligraphy and Painting" anthology published by China Literature and Art Publishing House.
In July 2017, his works were included in the anthology "Ink Brilliance" organized by the China Calligraphers Association.
Ouyang Zhongshi commented on his works: "Flowing like clouds and rivers, with profound brushwork and ink." Recently, he was invited to write postage stamps for Macao Philately and China Philately.
Gan Zhi has studied cursive script for 40 years, integrating the styles of Zhang Xu, Huaisu, Huang Tingjian, and Yu Youren into his own cursive script Heart Sutra, blending the beauty of cursive calligraphy with the aesthetics of Buddhist seal carving. Li Jia, an expert from CCTV's "Appraisal Treasure," authenticated him as the "One Brush of Southern Cursive Script," estimating his works at RMB 900,000–1,500,000.
In August 2019, Fan Zeng, Su Shishu, and Gan Zhi were jointly included in the "China-Africa Calligraphy and Painting Exchange Anthology" published by China Literature and Art Publishing House. In August 2019, he was officially listed on the Encyclopedia of Calligraphers and Painters.
