Hao Xinan, styled He Tang, whose study is named Yunhe Tang, calls himself the Master of Yunhe Tang. Born in Anyang, Henan, the birthplace of Shang Dynasty oracle bone script, he holds a bachelor’s degree and is a senior economist. He currently serves in the China Research Society of Oracle Bone Calligraphy Art, and is a standing director and president of the Finance Branch of the Anyang Calligraphy and Painting Research Society, a member of the Henan Province Financial Calligraphers Association, a member of the Anyang Branch of the China Calligraphers Association, a member of the Chinese Hard-Pen Calligraphy Association, and a director of the Anyang Financial Calligraphers Association.
Born into a scholarly family, he was immersed in calligraphy from childhood, studying under his father’s guidance. For thirty-five years, he has persistently practiced calligraphy, zealously following the footsteps of masters such as Ouyang Xun, Yan Zhenqing, Liu Gongquan, Zhao Mengfu, the Two Wangs, Huaisu, and Wu Changshuo. He is humble and eager to learn, broadly knowledgeable, and proficient in regular, cursive, seal, and clerical scripts. His running and regular script is elegant and free-flowing, soft yet firm, uniquely styled, and deeply cherished by the local populace.
In 2010, he became deeply devoted to oracle bone calligraphy art, studying under Professor Guo Qingping, a renowned scholar of oracle bone script. Having graduated early from Henan Normal University with a solid academic foundation and rich cultural cultivation, he gained a deeper and more profound understanding and mastery of oracle bone characters, which inspired him to explore integrating oracle bone script into modern calligraphy art. After entering the workforce, he encountered a wealth of cultural treasures unearthed from the Yinxu site, profoundly influenced and inspired by Shang Dynasty culture, and resolved to transmit oracle bone culture to the world and promote and expand the art of oracle bone calligraphy. Throughout his long and arduous journey of calligraphy practice, he has blazed a trail through thorns and brambles, endured hardship with unwavering perseverance, determined to integrate China’s ancient oracle bone script into modern calligraphy art and make it accepted and beloved by ordinary people!
