Li Qian, from Nanyang City, Henan, was born in June 1959 and is a member of the Nanyang Calligraphy Association. A member of the Communist Party of China, he enlisted in the military in 1978 and was discharged in 1991. Since childhood, he has been passionate about calligraphy art, diligently studying and copying masterpieces by various calligraphers, with a particular fondness for the "Lanting Xu" and the robust, powerful Xin Wei Bei style. After joining the military, he worked in military administrative roles and never ceased practicing calligraphy, having studied under several military calligraphers. In the past three years, he has seriously researched calligraphy theory, diligently practiced, emphasized the study of composition, drawn from ancient and modern sources, dared to explore, absorbed the strengths of others, and compensated for his own weaknesses, making admirable progress on the path of calligraphy copying and creation. His works are strong and grand, vigorous and powerful, with depth that penetrates the paper, rich in metallic and stone-like weight; in creation, he prioritizes spiritual essence, achieving elegance and fluidity, endowing his works with beauty and expressing individuality, earning widespread praise. His works have been collected by numerous calligraphy enthusiasts and friends and relatives. In 1987, his work won the second prize in the art and photography competition hosted by the Chengdu Military Region. In 2016, he successively participated in the "16th National Lushan Cup Calligraphy and Painting Competition," the "2nd National Online Calligraphy and Painting Competition," and the "Mianyang, Sichuan: A Thousand-Year Reunion of Li Bai and Du Fu Calligraphy and Painting Competition," with all entries selected. He also received bronze awards in both the 16th and 17th Lushan Cup Calligraphy and Painting Competitions, and earned the National Top 100 Entry Award in the "1217 Endless Ocean Sentiment" Calligraphy and Painting Competition. In 2017, he was selected as a "Personality of Brand Influence," and his works were published and distributed by multiple stamp publishing institutions. His works are frequently displayed on the Nanyang Calligraphy and Painting website, and he has been honored as a "Representative Figure of Contemporary Chinese Calligraphy and Painting under the Belt and Road Initiative," with numerous media outlets conducting special reports.
