 Mao Baoxin, female, was born in Kaifeng in 1951. She graduated from the Literature Associate Degree program of Henan University’s Night School in 1985 and worked at Zhongjiao Factory and the Municipal Advertising Decoration Company. Self-taught in fine arts and visual design, she has been described by friends as a devoted pilgrim suffering for art, and has ventured into traditional Chinese painting, oil painting, acrylic murals, clay sculpture, large-scale sculpture, and landscape garden design and production. In 1995 and 1998, she designed and produced the Kaifeng Chrysanthemum Exhibition booths for the 5th and 6th National Chrysanthemum Festivals, both winning first prizes. From 1994 to 2001, she designed and produced multiple scenic installations for Kaifeng’s annual Chrysanthemum Festivals, including works such as “The Chrysanthemum Immortal,” “Li Qingzhao,” “Five Oxen,” “Technological Takeoff,” and “Dragon Soaring in an Era of Prosperity.” From 2002 to 2004, she designed and painted several large-scale murals for the Yanhuang Cultural Scenic Area in Xinzheng, including “Emperor Huang Unifies China and Founding Civilization” and “Yandi’s Agricultural Cultivation.” In 2004, she designed and painted multiple decorative murals and oil paintings for the Dongjing Grand Hotel in Kaifeng. In 2004, her ink painting “The Solemn Moment” was selected for the National Painting and Calligraphy Exhibition Celebrating the 55th Anniversary of the Founding of the PRC and won the First Prize in the Adult Category. In 2005, she collaborated on the design and production of large fiberglass sculptures “Wenchang Di Jun” and “Kui Xing” for the Wenchang Pavilion in Han Yuan Stele Forest. In 2007, her ink painting “Portrait of Emperor Huang” was selected for the National Painting and Calligraphy Exhibition of the Yellow Emperor Ancestral Worship Ceremony. In 2007, her ink painting “Sturdy Bamboo” was selected by Contemporary Chinese Painting Magazine and awarded the Contemporary Fine Arts Excellence Award. From 2006 to 2009, she sculpted a series of large-scale statues for Tianbo Yang Mansion, including “Loyal Valor Through the Ages,” “Eternal Heroic Spirit,” “The Yang Women Warriors,” “Welcome to Tianbo Yang Mansion,” and a 15-meter relief wall titled “Loyal and Valiant Yang Family Generals.” In 2009, she created a large fiberglass sculpture of “Li Qingzhao” for the Henan Pavilion at the National Flower Expo in Qingzhou, winning the First Prize. From 2011 to 2013, she sculpted white cement statues of “The Lotus Immortal” and the group sculpture “Chinese Child Kung Fu” for Tieba Park. In 2013, she designed and produced large scenic installations for Tieba Park’s Lotus Festival and Chrysanthemum Festival, including “Flying Celestial – Golden Buddha Hand.” In 2016, she created multiple eight-foot ink paintings for the Sixth Patriarch Zen Temple in Beijing, including “The Life and Buddhist Transmission of Kumarajiva” and a twelve-foot ink painting “Bi Xia Xianjun and the Three Stars of Fortune, Rank, and Longevity.” In autumn 2017, she designed and created a stone relief mural titled “Defending the Frontier with Arms” for the west wall of the central hall at Tianbo Yang Mansion. In winter 2017, her ink painting “General Peng Xuefeng” was exhibited in the “Invitation Exhibition of Paintings and Calligraphy Commemorating the 110th Anniversary of General Peng Xuefeng’s Birth.” Currently: Member of the Henan Artists Association  Master of Henan Folk Art and Craft Senior Artistic Professional of Henan Folk Art Talent Standing Director of Kaifeng Old Artists Association       Director of Kaifeng Zhongshan Painting Academy
