Zhao Guangfu, studio names: Banxianzhai and Shangwutang. Born in December 1950 in Wuan, Hebei Province. Came from a scholarly family with a deep academic heritage. At the age of twenty, he became a disciple of the renowned calligrapher Wu Muyao, and for more than a decade was profoundly influenced by his teachings. He is fond of seal and clerical scripts and excels in running and cursive scripts. His calligraphy is rooted in the styles of Yan Zhenqing and He Shaoji. He pursues an artistic style characterized by antiquity, subtlety, freshness, elegance, balance, and restraint. He proposes the viewpoint that "Literature is the foundation, calligraphy is the structure," advocating broadening one's horizons and diligently enhancing one's "extra-calligraphic skills." His calligraphy works have been exhibited multiple times. In 1979, he published the brushwork handbook "Large Regular Script of Liu Style." In September 2014, he held the exhibition "Zhao Guangfu Calligraphy Exhibition" at the Kaifeng Museum. His calligraphy essays and works have been published in newspapers and journals such as China Youth Daily, China Calligraphy, Calligraphy, Calligraphy News, China Calligraphy and Painting Daily, and Calligraphy Guide. His biography has been included in reference works such as Dictionary of Modern Chinese Calligraphers, Dictionary of Contemporary Chinese Calligraphers and Painters, Dictionary of Chinese Calligraphers Ancient and Modern, and Biographical Directory of Chinese Overseas Artists and Writers.
