Personal Profile

Gao Hengyan, pen name Xiangfu, was born in 1955 and is originally from Chenzhou. He holds a junior college diploma and began his career in education in 1978 as a senior Chinese language teacher at the secondary school level, recognized as a provincial backbone teacher of Henan Province and an outstanding teacher of Zhoukou City. He previously served as Party Secretary and Principal of Beicheng No.1 Middle School and No.2 Middle School in Shenqiu County. Since childhood, he has had broad interests, especially in martial arts and calligraphy, and entered the realm of painting and calligraphy under the personal instruction of his mentor, Mr. Yang Wenquan. He initially studied the styles of Yan Zhenqing and Liu Gongquan, later progressing to the "Two Wangs" style, with particular proficiency in running script and a solid foundation in calligraphy. He is currently a National Level I Martial Arts Master and a National Level II Wushu Referee; a council member of the Shenqiu County Calligraphers Association, a member of the Zhoukou City Calligraphers Association, a academician of the China Huatuo Painting and Calligraphy Academy, and a member of the China Elderly Painting and Calligraphy Research Society. In October 2012, his calligraphy work was collected at the Guangyun Mountain Health Culture Festival in Dongguan, China. In November 2012, he won the Silver Award in the China Painting and Calligraphy Masters Competition commemorating the 85th anniversary of Comrade Mao Zedong’s leadership of the Autumn Harvest Uprising and the founding of the Jinggangshan Revolutionary Base, and was awarded the honorary title of "Dongfanghong: Chinese Red Artist." In May 2014, he won the Gold Award in the National Senior and Middle-Aged Painting and Calligraphy Masters Competition celebrating the 65th Anniversary of the Founding of the People's Republic of China, and was honored with the title of "Splendid 65 Years: Chinese Meritorious Painting and Calligraphy Artist." In July 2017, he won the First Prize in the 3rd "Peace Ode, Chinese Sentiment" National Invitation Exhibition of Painting and Calligraphy Masters, and was recommended as one of the "2017 China Good Brand Influential Calligraphers" and "Influential Art Ambassador" in the 2017 China Good Brand Art Figures Selection Activity.
