Zhang Xiao, from Nanyang, Henan, born in 1966, is a renowned calligrapher;Member of the China Calligraphers Association;Member of the China Artists Association;Academician of the China Academy of Calligraphy and Painting;Member of the Henan Province Calligraphers Association;Vice President of the Wudang Mountain Calligraphy and Painting Academy;Vice Chairman and Secretary-General of the Wolong District Calligraphers Association, Nanyang;Director of the Oriental Calligraphy and Painting Academy;Part-time Professor at Nanyang Normal University;Chairman of the Henan Dongxiao Cultural Exchange Center Certified as a Level-One Calligrapher by the China Art Collection and Appraisal Center. His calligraphy rate is set at RMB 10,000 per square foot (Certificate No. 0011O issued by the China Calligraphy and Painting Art Collection and Appraisal Center),In recent years, he has held nearly 200 calligraphy events in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Zhengzhou, Dongguan, Hengyang, Shiyan, Dalian, Nanchang, Tai'an, Datong, Lianyungang, Fuzhou, Lhasa, and other locations. In early 2017, invited by the Ministry of Culture, he participated in the "Belt and Road: Chinese Artists Enter Russia" event in Russia and received the Art Achievement Award presented by Ms. Gavanna, Minister of Culture of Vladivostok, Russia. In June 2014, he published his personal album, "Chinese Calligrapher and Painter Zhang Xiao,"with over one hundred of his works published in various national newspapers and magazines, and he has won 26 provincial or higher-level calligraphy awards. Zhang Xiao began practicing calligraphy since childhood, focusing on hard-pen calligraphy during his student years, and transitioned to brush calligraphy after adulthood. In his creative process, he skillfully draws upon the experience and artistic essence of predecessors, advocating that art originates from life and extracting inspiration from ordinary daily experiences. He excels in observation, reflection, refinement, and elevation, acquiring creative inspiration through this process. While respecting tradition, he avoids rigid imitation and boldly innovates. After repeated refinement, he has gradually developed a unique artistic style characterized by rounded strokes, fluid lines, and a free-spirited, elegant demeanor, producing numerous acclaimed masterpieces. His running script combines softness with strength, balancing grandeur and elegance, rich in texture and naturally structured. He follows ancient traditions without being bound by them, seeks innovation without chasing trends. His brushwork is concentrated and powerful, exuding majestic momentum and vivid ink expression; his characters appear as dragons soaring and phoenixes dancing, with rhythmic lines that resemble a beautiful musical composition. His clerical script is graceful and unrestrained yet retains depth and solemnity, vigorous and expressive while adhering to rules and standards—truly embodying stillness within movement, movement born of stillness, where stillness enhances beauty and movement arises from tranquility, creating endless charm, profound vigor, extraordinary grace, and breathtaking aesthetics, evoking the image of rolling clouds cascading for miles. His style is as distinctive as his character, forming a unique and self-contained artistic identity.
