Personal Profile

Fu Wenyi, styled Wenlong, is a painter, poet, and founder of the "Xie Xin Tang" brand. He specializes in freehand flower-and-bird painting and calligraphy. Currently, he serves as Vice President of the Chinese Calligraphers and Painters Association, is a member of the China Association of Famous Calligraphers and Painters, the China National Painters Association, and the Chinese Poetry Association. He is also the founder of Xie Xin Tang and holds the title of Senior National Calligrapher and Painter. Biography: 1989: Officially began studying painting under a master. 1993: During high school, sought instruction from renowned professors at Henan University to study painting. 1996: Enrolled in the Art Department of the College of Cultural Communication at Zhengzhou University. 1997: During university, studied traditional Chinese painting under mentor Cao Dongbo. 1998: His ink painting Autumn Rhyme was selected for the 3rd Henan New Artists and New Works Exhibition. 1999: His ink painting Spring Chorus won an excellence award at the 4th Henan New Artists and New Works Exhibition. 2000: His ink painting Great Auspiciousness was exhibited in the Great Exhibition of New China's Calligraphy and Painting Art. 2002: His ink painting Moonlight over the Lotus Pond was selected for the 10th Henan Provincial Flower-and-Bird Painting Exhibition. 2003: His ink painting United as One was included in the national calligraphy and painting exhibition "With One Heart Against SARS". 2005: His ink series Plum, Orchid, Bamboo, and Chrysanthemum won an award in the "Grand Exhibition of Folk Art for the New Year – Elegance in Popularity". 2008: Published Fu Wenyi's Flower-and-Bird Collection. 2010: Published Fu Wenyi's Freehand Ink Paintings. 2014: Studied calligraphy under Li Feng, focusing on seal script, clerical script, and cursive script. 2015: Studied seal carving under the guidance of Xu Xiongzhi, Gu Songzhang, and Wang Chen. 2016–2018: Three times selected for the Henan New Artists Calligraphy Exhibition. 2016: Began studying regulated classical poetry under Niu Yun; has since published hundreds of poems. 2017: His calligraphy work won an outstanding work award at the Calligraphy Exhibition marking the 40th Anniversary of Reform and Opening-up. 2018: Held a personal exhibition titled Friendship Through Painting at the Zhengzhou Art Gallery. Fu Wenyi possesses profound expertise in Chinese freehand flower-and-bird painting, calligraphy, seal carving, poetry, and aesthetic theory. His works are deeply rooted in traditional Chinese culture, embodying the artistic concept that calligraphy and painting share the same origin. Drawing from diverse strengths, his works feature rich themes, powerful brushwork, fluid ink resonance, elegant style, and a poetic, picturesque quality. They demonstrate not only solid traditional skills and realistic techniques but also a unique personal style grounded in life experience, making him a prominent figure in today’s art world. His works have been frequently exhibited both domestically and internationally, earning awards, being collected, published, and included in anthologies. Numerous pieces are collected by individuals and institutions such as museums, the Malaysia Art Academy, and international friends. He has published several collections including Fu Wenyi's Flower-and-Bird Paintings and Fu Wenyi's Freehand Art Collection.
