 Personal Profile

Zhang Yaohui is a member of the China Calligraphers Association, Vice President of the China Artists and Calligraphers Association, and a member of the Henan Calligraphers Association. He graduated from the Seventh Tutor Class of the China Calligraphers Association Training Center. He is the Director of the Henan Guoshang Academy of Painting and Calligraphy, Honorary President of the Kaifeng Daxiong Huang Tingjian Research Society, and a specially appointed calligrapher and painter at the Kaifeng Cultural Living Room Academy of Art Masters. He studied under Mr. Zhang Shigang, a council member of the China Calligraphers Association.
Born into a scholarly family, Zhang Yaohui’s maternal grandfather, Zhang Shilu, was a renowned Chinese linguist; his elder maternal uncle, Zhang Shuqi, was one of the “Three Masters of Jinling” alongside Xu Beihong and Liu Zigu; and his fifth maternal uncle, Zhang Shijian, is a contemporary painter. From an early age, Zhang Yaohui was immersed in this artistic environment, which laid the foundation for his achievements in calligraphy.
Zhang Yaohui’s calligraphy skillfully inherits tradition, beginning with the styles of the “Two Wangs,” while drawing upon the characteristics of past masters of running and cursive script, resulting in works that are both rooted in tradition and characterized by elegance and fluidity.
His calligraphy works have won the Gold Prize at the 4th National Shenzhou Cup Calligraphy Competition, the Gold Prize at the National Painting and Calligraphy Exhibition commemorating the 120th Anniversary of Mao Zedong’s Birth, the Collection Award at the China 2009 World Philatelic Exhibition’s “Thousand People, Thousand Stamps” Calligraphy Exhibition, and the Gold Prize at the 2010 China-Japan Parliamentary and Civil Servant Calligraphy Exhibition.
