Shao Baoyin (born March 1973), styled Hetang, also known as Erquan Hou Sheng, graduated from the Calligraphy Postgraduate Program at the School of Arts, Peking University. He is currently a member of the China Calligraphers Association, Vice Chairman of the 9th and 10th Councils of the Chinese Calligraphers and Painters Association, Visiting Professor at Taiwan University, member of the Chinese Poetry Society, and Dean of Shao Yong Academy. He received tutelage from Mr. Zhao Puchu, former Vice Chairman of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, and renowned calligrapher Professor Wang Xuezhong of Tianjin University. His calligraphy began with clerical script, initially practicing formal and structured forms, gradually evolving toward boldness and grandeur, imbued with solemn dignity; he later studied Ouyang Xun’s regular script, traced running script back to the Two Wangs, and recently focused on the pure regular script of the Wei and Jin dynasties.
In August 2016, he was commissioned to create a monumental 2x9-meter clerical script work of Chairman Mao’s poem “Qinyuanchun – Snow” for the “Xibaipo” Hall on the second floor of the Chairman Mao Memorial Hall; simultaneously, he created a clerical script piece titled “Constant Virtue Never Leaves, Returning Again to the State of an Infant” for Premier Li Keqiang’s office. In 2015, the Taipei City Government and the National Palace Museum in Taiwan hosted the “Ascending Heights for a Distant View” Invitational Calligraphy Exhibition of Shao Baoyin in Taiwan, where all exhibited works were sold out. In September 2016, the French Ministry of Culture and the Royal Academy of Arts in Paris hosted the “Ascending Heights for a Distant View” Invitational Calligraphy Exhibition of Shao Baoyin in France. Published works include “Collected Works of Shao Baoyin: Poetry, Calligraphy, and Seal Carving,” “Selected Calligraphy Works of Shao Baoyin,” and he served as chief editor of the large-scale documentary series “Collected Works of Shao Yong” and “Shao Baoyin’s Regular Script Version of the Dao De Jing.” Address: 26th Floor, Huafu, Guobao Garden, Kaiyuan Avenue, Luolong District, Luoyang City, Henan Province
