Jia Erchao, pseudonym Songshan Yimo, born in 1953 in Dengfeng City, Henan Province, began learning calligraphy and painting from childhood. In 1973, he joined the Chinese People's Liberation Army; during his military service, he won first prize in the Wuhan Military Region for a portrait of the great writer Lu Xun, and received awards for 84 cartoons created while in the army. He also won multiple awards for works published in military art journals and on bulletin boards. After being transferred from military service, he diligently practiced various calligraphic styles and copied masterpieces, including small bird paintings and landscape and floral works. He participated in municipal calligraphy and painting competitions and won awards; he is currently a member of the Municipal Calligraphy and Painting Committee. He is now appointed as a First-Class Calligrapher at the General’s Calligraphy and Painting Academy and serves as Vice President of the Military Calligraphy and Painting Academy. He has frequently participated in calligraphy and painting friendship events; in April 9, 2018, his full-page artwork was featured on the front page of China’s Five Military Arts Journal. In November 2019, he joined Baike and received an authoritative certification as a First-Class Calligrapher. After rigorous evaluation and reference to current domestic and international calligraphy and painting market trends, his appraised market rate is RMB 8,000 per square foot. His works have won numerous awards and are collected by friends both domestically and internationally.
