 Mao Boyi, formerly known by the artistic names Ku Mo and Mo Yuan, was born in 1954 in Lankao County, Henan Province. He has loved calligraphy since childhood and placed great emphasis on practicing it. Later, as his skills improved, he studied under Mr. Cai Gengye, a renowned calligrapher from the former Kaifeng Calligraphers Association. He is now a member of the Xinjiang Tacheng Regional Calligraphers Association.
In 2017, he won first prize in the calligraphy and painting exhibition hosted by the No. 134 Regiment Trade Union and received an Excellence Award in the 11th Chinese Calligraphy and Painting Competition organized by China.com. For decades, he has tirelessly practiced brushwork, diligently studied, and continuously refined his skills. He spares no effort in mentoring students and inspiring fellow teachers, doing his utmost to inherit and promote China’s traditional calligraphy culture.A person is like his calligraphy; calligraphy reflects the person. Through calligraphy, he has forged meaningful connections and friendships, earning consistent praise from all sectors of society. His works, characterized by elegant and vigorous brushstrokes, are cherished by the public. He has left numerous calligraphic pieces for calligraphy enthusiasts in his hometown and wherever he has traveled; many admirers have engraved his works onto door lintels and used them to decorate pavilions and towers. His works are collected by institutions such as the Public Security, Procuratorate, and Court of No. 134 Regiment, as well as by local calligraphy enthusiasts.
