Wang Hui, male, pen name Leng Ran, born in December 1971, is a native of Weichuan, Henan. He has a deep passion for calligraphy.
In his youth, by chance, he encountered calligraphy. Watching the smooth, flowing lines of brushstrokes in calligraphic works and sensing the emotional expression of the artists, Wang Hui became utterly enchanted, as if he had found a kindred soul. He initially studied Han dynasty clerical script, later practicing Yan-style regular script, thereby establishing a solid foundation. At that time, he thoroughly read many books on painting and calligraphy and mastered the compositional principles of running and cursive scripts.
Time has not diminished Wang Hui’s love for calligraphy. Staying true to his original aspiration, he has persisted to the end. In recent years, he has revisited classics with renewed understanding, diligently studying the stele inscriptions and model scripts of masters such as Wang Xizhi, Mi Fu, and Wang Duo, earnestly mastering their character forms and brush techniques, seeking ancient teachings, and drawing widely from diverse strengths. Wang Hui always places reading and learning at the forefront of his pursuit of knowledge, maintaining simplicity and authenticity. Through immersion in classical poetry and prose, he enhances his cultural cultivation and integrates it into his own works. In daily life, he humbly seeks guidance from renowned calligraphers and continually benefits from their instruction. When time permits, he actively participates in various calligraphy workshops and attends exhibitions by masters to enrich his knowledge.
High perceptiveness is Wang Hui’s greatest strength, enabling his calligraphy skills to continuously improve. His works are clear yet profound, dynamic and ethereal, imbued with extraordinary momentum, reflecting his sincere, humble personality and resolute, tranquil attitude toward life. His works have won numerous awards in national, provincial, and municipal exhibitions and are widely admired and collected. He is currently a member of the Henan Calligraphers Association and the president of Kaifeng Leng Ran Tang Calligraphy and Painting Academy, having founded Huihong Academy and Huihong Calligraphy and Painting Studio.
