Personal Profile
  Zhang Huayan, born in 1961, is from Changyuan, Henan Province and graduated from the Fine Arts Department of Henan University. He formerly taught at the Kepeng Campus of Beijing Normal University and currently teaches at Suzhou Academy of Art Advancement, having long been engaged in fine arts education. He is now a professor, master's thesis supervisor, national first-class artist, researcher at the Chinese Academy of Fine Arts, member of the Chinese University Artists Association, and member of the China Invention Association. In 1986, his work "Figure Drawing" was selected into the Collection of Works by Graduate Students from Chinese Advanced Academies of Fine Arts. In 1991, he participated in the Sino-Japanese jointly held Painting and Calligraphy Competition "The Four Seasons of China," where his oil painting "Portrait of Qu Yuan" won third prize; the same year, his works were exhibited in Japan.
        In 2003, upon invitation from the Embassy of Saudi Arabia in China, his oil painting "Mountain Path" was collected by the Embassy of Saudi Arabia in China.
        In 2004, his traditional Chinese painting "Noble Character" was included in the "Chinese Painting and Calligraphy Treasure Book," and his painting "Praise of the Plateau" was compiled into the "Great Compendium of Contemporary Chinese Painting and Calligraphy Art."
        In 2005, he participated in the "Genxiber" Art Exhibition in Malaysia, where his Chinese painting "Young Girl" won second prize. His academic papers include "How to Draw Sketches" and "New Compilation of Color for College Entrance Exams."
        In 2006, he independently designed and developed a sketching device and obtained a patent certificate. The same year, his work "Moving Human Figure" participated in the Seoul International Art Exhibition in South Korea.
        In 2007, he participated in the Second Canadian Chinese Poetry, Calligraphy, and Painting Grand Exhibition hosted by the Global Chinese Newspaper in Canada, and his works were compiled into the exhibition collection.
        In 2008, he participated in the Ministry of Culture’s External Cultural and Artistic Exchange Exhibition with the work "Warm Sun." His painting "Old Man Watching the Fish Pond" was published in China Trade News.
        In 2009, he participated in the 14th Henan Provincial Exhibition of New Artists with the work "First Snow."
        In 2011, he participated in the National Art Exhibition "Oriental Crown," presenting his artwork "Lotus Charm" which was subsequently collected. The same year, he took part in the Second National Couplet Calligraphy and Painting Invitational Exhibition and received the Danqing Art Award.
       In 2012, he participated in the Third Annual Exhibition of Chinese University Artworks, exhibiting his piece "Fishing Scene." The same year, he joined the 11th National Exhibition of Outstanding Teachers' and Students' Artworks, winning the Gold Prize in the teachers’ category with his work "Whispers of Reed Flowers," which was displayed at the Great Hall of the People. In November of the same year, his artwork "Harmonious Lotus Bringing Good Fortune" was exhibited and published at the Louvre in France. In December of the same year, he was included in the book "Biographies of Chinese Figures" compiled by the Editorial Committee of the Daily History of the People's Republic of China.
       His works have been published in major newspapers and periodicals such as China Trade News, Wujiang Daily, China Celebrities Magazine, China Painting and Calligraphy News, Contemporary Chinese Sketching Collection, Suzhou Television, Wujiang Television, Inner Mongolia Television, and are collected by art enthusiasts from various countries including the United States, Italy, Germany, India, Brazil, Japan, South Korea, Vietnam, and Australia.
