 Zhang Shuying, female, born in 1966 in Yuzhou City, Henan Province. Graduated in 1988 from the Art Department of Zhengzhou Institute of Light Industry, China. During her college years, she already demonstrated artistic talent, publishing illustrations and poems in Henan’s “Baihuayuan” magazine and Kaifeng Daily, among others. Her assignment “Social Survey” won a special prize, and her graduation work received first prize and an excellence award in Henan Province’s “Year of the Dragon Competition.” In 1991, she attended advanced study classes at the Central Academy of Fine Arts and the Academy of Arts & Design, Tsinghua University (formerly Central Academy of Arts and Crafts). Later, she designed the emblem for Luoyang’s “Peony Festival,” created trendy costumes for Luoyang TV’s program “Three Styles Weekly,” and custom-designed “Ancient Celebrity Costumes” for Luoyang TV’s Spring Festival Gala. She has served as a visiting professor at Henan University of Science and Technology and Luoyang Institute of Science and Technology. During this period, she assisted renowned contemporary painter Mr. Dong Xiuqun in completing two major oil painting series, “Land of Bliss” and “Native Soil” (both Luoyang Evening News and Hong Kong Ta Kung Pao dedicated half-page features to report on them; Luoyang TV and local propaganda departments jointly produced a special documentary submitted to CCTV). She later taught art for many years at the Affiliated High School of Henan University of Science and Technology until retirement. Over decades of teaching, she achieved remarkable educational results: her son was admitted to the Central Academy of Fine Arts in 2013 (ranking third nationwide in sketching that year); in 2016, two graduating students she taught were admitted to Tsinghua University; countless others were admitted to other key universities nationwide. She was awarded the title of “Outstanding Teacher of Henan Province.” During this time, she founded an art studio; works by the primary and secondary school students she trained have repeatedly won gold medals in international children’s painting competitions. She herself was honored as a “Distinguished Teacher,” and her works were included in the “International Outstanding Teachers’ Art Collection.”       After retirement, she devoted herself to painting creation, covering various subjects (figures, flowers and birds, landscapes, scenery). Her techniques derive from studying classical masterpieces, and her style is diverse. Her works have won awards in provincial and municipal art competitions, have been collected multiple times by domestic and overseas art dealers, and have been acquired by local dignitaries, enjoying great popularity among art enthusiasts. Currently, she is a member of the Henan Artists Association, Director of the Wu Daozi Painting and Calligraphy Research Society of China, and President of the Central Plains Freehand Painting Academy.
