Fan Dawei
Personal Profile
Fan Dawei, born in September 1968 in Luoyang, is known by his studio name “Xiwen Zhai Zhu.” He is the 30th-generation descendant of Fan Zhongyan, the renowned Northern Song Dynasty statesman, military strategist, literary figure, and educator. Currently, he serves as a researcher at the China Cadres Calligraphy and Painting Research Institute, standing director of the China Ecological Civilization Calligraphy and Painting Academy, specially appointed calligrapher at the Beijing Great Wall Calligraphy and Painting Academy, and calligraphy consultant for Luoyang International Foreign Language School. Since childhood, he has been immersed in culture and calligraphy, inheriting the spirit of the Chinese nation and carrying within his blood a deep sense of concern for the country and its people. He regards inheriting national culture and spreading positive energy as his personal mission. His bold personality reflects the unrestrained character of a northern man; he never refuses anyone who comes to request his calligraphy, believing that recognition and trust matter more than anything else. Yet, in stark contrast to his rough exterior is his deeply penetrating, vigorous brushwork, which reveals his profound foundation in calligraphy!
“Writing Chinese characters well and being a good Chinese person” is precisely the true portrayal of Mr. Fan Dawei. His works have been collected and highly praised by many renowned domestic and international figures and institutions, including Ms. Li Na, beloved daughter of Chairman Mao Zedong; Ms. Yang Jia, Vice President of the International Disability Federation; Ms. Wen Ran, of the Chinese Embassy in South Africa; the late renowned artist Mr. Yan Su; lyricist Mr. Wang Xiaoling; national patriotic supporter of the military, Ms. Qiao Wenjuan; national moral model Guo Mingyi; national hero of righteous bravery, Xu Honggang; national charity ambassador Li Yuting; Du Fuguo, “Mine-clearing Hero” and one of the Ten Most Touching Figures in China 2018; the Chinese Generals Calligraphy and Painting Academy; the 8341 Association; the National Farmers’ Games; and the 9th batch of Chinese peacekeeping engineering troops to South Sudan (Wau), among others.
