Personal Profile
Li Jun, originally from the ancient Heyang region (present-day Mengzhou, Henan), was born in 1972 and later settled in the ancient Shang capital (Zhengzhou, Henan); he calls himself “Master of Xiyi Hall.” From childhood, he inherited the family’s scholarly tradition and was deeply influenced by his father’s dedication to calligraphy and painting. Since early childhood, he loved copying and drawing characters and paintings. As early as elementary school, he experimented with seal carving and copying comic books; he also showed great interest in calligraphy. Even when he was barely as tall as a table, he would eagerly observe calligraphers creating Spring Festival couplets, completely absorbed and forgetting meals and sleep. Through continuous learning and personal dedication, he is nowDirector of the Junshang Calligraphy Training Base at the Ministry of Education's Chinese Painting and Calligraphy Examination Center.Holder of Level 9 certificates in both Chinese Calligraphy and Hard-pen Calligraphy from the Chinese Painting and Calligraphy Proficiency Test;Member of the Henan Calligraphers Association, the Chinese Hard-pen Calligraphers Association, the Zhengzhou Calligraphers Association, and the Jiaozuo Artists Association.Primarily engaged in calligraphy instruction, he regards the inheritance of Chinese culture as his foremost mission and reveres classical traditions. His regular script (kaishu) is grounded in the style of Ouyang Xun, blended with the fluid grace and vigorous dynamism of Chu Suiliang; his clerical script (lishu) draws its essence from the “Cao Quan Stele” and “Yi Ying Stele,” incorporating Deng Shiru’s brush techniques, aiming for a rich, mellow, and anciently elegant tone; his seal script (zhuanshu) is rooted in Wu Rangzhi’s style with subtle variations; his running script (xingshu) has long been immersed in the styles of Mi Fu and the Two Wangs, expressing his inner spirit through bold and decisive brushwork; his small running script adopts the foundations of Zhao Mengfu and Mi Fu, displaying lively grace and striving to embody scholarly elegance. Art knows no bounds; learning is an endless ocean—he seeks innovation without forgetting tradition, and the road ahead remains long.
