 Personal Profile

Chen Yu'an, styled Yichen, was born in 1963. Passionate about calligraphy and painting since childhood, he has consistently studied and copied works by renowned masters of traditional Chinese painting throughout history, accumulating experience and refining his techniques, specializing in Chinese painting, particularly acclaimed for his bird-and-flower paintings. He graduated in 1990 from the Chinese Painting Department of the Correspondence University of Chinese Calligraphy and Painting, and completed advanced studies in freehand Chinese painting at the Tianjin Academy of Fine Arts. Currently, he is a member of the Henan Branch of the China Artists Association, a member of the National Public Security Artists Association, and Chairman of the Zhecheng Artists Association. He has persistently engaged in the creation and study of Chinese painting, receiving guidance from renowned artists such as Guo Yizong, Gao Guanhua, Huo Chunyang, Xiao Peijin, Zhou Wusheng, and Wei Yunfei. Diligently cultivating his art, his works gradually embody the profound roots and dynamic essence of traditional Chinese literati bird-and-flower painting: his brushwork is concise and precise, composition uniquely conceived, ink tones richly moist yet restrained, colors vibrant yet never vulgar—color, light, form, and rhythm each possess distinctive charm, forming his own distinctive style. His works have been selected multiple times for national exhibitions organized by the China Artists Association, Henan Provincial Artists Association, Ministry of Public Security, and other institutions, winning numerous awards; many of his pieces are collected by domestic art organizations, and he has been featured in special reports by various media outlets.
