Personal Profile
Liang Wenxiu, styled Mòyán, owner of Wuxu Hall, was born in 1951 in Luyi, Henan—the hometown of Laozi. He enlisted in the army in 1969 and later transferred to the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, serving at the Political Department of Shihezi 143rd Regiment (responsible for ideological, cultural, and spiritual civilization construction work; also served as Chairman of the Literary and Art Federation and Calligraphy Association). A member of the Communist Party of China, he holds a university degree and the title of Senior Political Worker. Now retired, he resides in the Songzhuang Art District of Beijing.
Calligraphy is my second career. Passionate about it since childhood, I have never ceased practicing for decades. Rooted in tradition, I have devoted particular effort to studying the calligraphy of the Two Wangs (Wang Xizhi and Wang Xianzhi). Adhering to the eight-character motto—“Tranquility, Spontaneity, Authenticity, Nature”—I not only hone my technical skills but also persistently pursue deeper understanding through connecting with all things and perceiving their essence. Thus, I have gradually developed a calligraphic style that is elegant and dignified, light and agile, romantic and free-spirited, uplifting, and appreciated by both connoisseurs and the general public.
To further enhance my calligraphic skills, in 2007, approaching the age of sixty, I enrolled in the Advanced Calligraphy Research Class under Professor Zhang Rongqing at the Graduate School of the Chinese National Academy of Arts, earning a postgraduate degree in calligraphy. In August 2015, I participated in the professional calligrapher training program jointly organized by three national ministries (Ministry of Culture, Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, and Ministry of Social Security), achieving excellent scores in both theoretical exams and practical assessments. I was awarded the National Senior Professional Calligrapher Qualification Certificate and the honorary title of Senior Professional Calligrapher.

Achievements His works have been exhibited and awarded in numerous national calligraphy exhibitions, and are collected by multiple art institutions, enterprises, galleries, and private collectors. In June 2015, a six-foot running-script calligraphy piece featuring Chairman Mao’s portrait was presented as a state gift to the President of Cameroon, Africa. 1999: First Prize in the Calligraphy Exhibition Celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China, titled “Love My China, Promote National Treasures” 2000: Gold Award in the China Calligraphy Masters Exhibition 2001: Silver Award in the First China Huabiao Prize for Painting and Calligraphy Art Exhibition 2002: Excellence Award in the Second National Calligraphy and Electricity Competition 2004: Honored with the title “Cultural Ambassador of China” by three cultural institutions including China Calligraphy Magazine and China Painting and Calligraphy Art Exchange Center 2008: Participated in the large-scale charity event “Love China, Charitable Donation”; auctioned artwork for 10,000 RMB, donated to the earthquake-stricken area of Sichuan Wenchuan December 2008: Received the “Model of Public Welfare, Great Love for China” Donation Award and was invited to attend the 2008 Annual Public Welfare China Awards Ceremony in Beijing March 2009: Participated in the Second Songzhuang Art Festival Large-scale Painting and Calligraphy Exhibition October 2010: Held a solo calligraphy exhibition at the Ai Qing Poetry Museum in Shihezi, Xinjiang, hosted by the Shihezi Federation of Literary and Art Circles and the 143rd Regiment, lasting one week July 2011: Joint exhibition at Boyaxuan Gallery, Rongbaozhai, Liulichang, Beijing September 2011: Gold Award in the National Painting and Calligraphy Exhibition “Ink Remembers the Great Leader” August 2013: “Song of Integrity” selected for the first “Marching Toward Lofty Ideals: Realizing the Chinese Dream” National Painting and Calligraphy Art Exhibition October 2013: Over twenty works exhibited at the 16th Beijing International Art Expo December 2013: Participated in the national exhibition “Summit of Mountains—Commemorating the 120th Anniversary of Chairman Mao’s Birth” September 2015: Participated in the inaugural national touring exhibition “Art and Wealth—Invitational Exhibition of National Masters” at Yanhuang Art Museum May 2016: Over fifty works exhibited at the Porcelain Painting Gallery in Jiangxi Nanchang October 2017: Held a solo painting and calligraphy exhibition featuring over seventy works at Baya Gallery in Songzhuang Art District, Beijing December 2018: Participated in the Masters’ Invitational Exhibition held at the CPPCC Auditorium
Overseas Promotion In 2015, his works were promoted globally to overseas Chinese and Chinese business communities via the China News Service’s international media platforms, covering countries and regions including the United States, Canada, France, Italy, Poland, Japan, South Korea, Thailand, Hong Kong, and Macau. At seventy years of age, he composed a self-written couplet: Upper line: Joined the Youth League at 16, the Party at 18; devoted youth to the military, sweat poured into the frontier. Lower line: Studied at Radio and TV University in my thirties, pursued postgraduate studies in my fifties; cultivated literature and virtue, expressed emotions through ink. Horizontal inscription: Live with Integrity Life Reflections: In officialdom, heroes are not measured by rank—true gold will always shine. In calligraphy, heroes are not measured by fame—let the works speak; I write my own characters, and happiness is all that matters.
