Liu Xiaocun
Personal Profile
Liu Xiaocun, styled Jieshi, was born in 1975 in Xinzheng, Henan — the ancestral homeland of Yan and Huang Emperors — into a family with a long tradition in calligraphy and painting. He is currently a member of the Henan Provincial Artists Association, a researcher at the China International Calligraphy and Painting Research Institute, a first-class calligrapher and painter on the China Calligraphy and Painting Masters Network, Vice President of the Henan People’s Calligraphy and Painting Academy, and a guest professor of traditional Chinese painting at the School of Fine Arts of Zhengzhou University and Zhengzhou Institute of Technology. He has long benefited from the tutelage of his father, the renowned peony painter Liu Jianmin, inheriting family traditions from an early age. He studied poetry, calligraphy, and painting under his father’s guidance, developing a special fondness and deep understanding of traditional culture. His heart and mind have grown alongside his art. His studio is named “Hanyuanzhai,” and he works as a professional painter.
In 1996, he went to Beijing’s Rongbaozhai to devote himself to learning mounting, remounting, and restoration techniques. He served as a master craftsman at century-old establishments such as the National Art Museum of China, Chengxin Hall, Guandi Art Gallery, and Cangbaozhai. His works have been collected and auctioned by Huaxia Collection Network. His peony paintings radiate the noble beauty and splendor of the national flower, blooming with vivid grace. His artworks are fresh, elegant, and pleasing to the eye — an excellent choice whether for collection, home decoration, or gifting.
The pricing for Liu Xiaocun’s traditional Chinese paintings at Beijing’s Cangbaoge Gallery is 3,000 RMB per square chi.
