Zhang Qiao
Personal Profile
Zhang Qiao, a member of the Communist Party of China, was born in 1984 in Qiqihar, Heilongjiang Province. From an early age, she was deeply influenced by traditional Chinese art and developed a profound passion for ink and brush painting. She is currently a researcher at the China National Academy of Painting, a specially invited painter at the China Contemporary Art Research Institute, a council member of the China International Cultural Arts Exchange Promotion Association, and a council member of the China Calligraphy and Painting Art Research Institute, Beijing Ice and Snow Painting Art Research Association Vice President, a contracted artist at Youran International Art Space, and a new-generation painter of the Chinese "Ice and Snow School."
She has a deep understanding of the essence of traditional Chinese painting and a thorough grasp of the spirit of traditional Chinese calligraphy. Adhering to the philosophy of "emphasizing tradition, depicting life, following nature, and expressing personal emotion," her ink paintings seek innovation within tradition, employ bold and unrestrained techniques, blend strength with grace, and delight through brush and ink. Her calligraphy draws extensively from masterpieces of all dynasties, embodying the principle of "transcending the mundane while retaining threefold subtlety, emerging as an individual amidst the collective," thus forming a dynamic, vigorous, and robust style. Her ice and snow paintings follow the lineage of Yu Zhixue, the founder of ice and snow landscape painting. Her works aim for an aesthetic system centered on "cold culture," with "cold elegance" as the core expression of ice and snow themes. Her compositions are simplified yet precise, her brushwork bold and free, her colors vivid, and her overall effect grand and majestic. Her works achieve high levels of abstraction without losing subtle details, embrace exaggeration without sacrificing realism, and possess a uniquely distinctive artistic style. Owing to her dedicated research in Chinese painting, exceptional artistic skill, and outstanding achievements, in August 2015, she was specially appointed as a researcher by the China National Academy of Painting.
In April 2016, multiple works were selected for the exhibition "Spontaneous Expression—Exhibition of Contemporary Chinese Master Paintings and Calligraphy."
