Qi Genshi, styled Bao Ming, also known as Sai Bei Yu Ren, is acclaimed as the "One-Stroke Fish of Guandong" and the "King of Chinese Root Carving." Born in 1953 in Hebei Province, he has long been based at the Tiancheng Art Center in Zhaodong City, Heilongjiang Province, and the Meiyuan Art Town in Wuxi City, Jiangsu Province. He currently holds the titles of Distinguished Contemporary Chinese Master of Arts and Crafts, Member of the Hong Kong China Artists Association, National First-Class Artist, Council Member of the China Calligraphy and Painting Association, Academician of the Chinese Chan Art Academy, Gift Artist of China Economic Daily, Vice President of the Heilongjiang Provincial Ethnic Calligraphy and Painting Association, Vice President of the Shenyang Ancient and Modern Calligraphy and Painting Association, and Master of Chinese Root Carving Art. Master Qi Genshi is grounded and unattached to fame or profit, having devoted over four decades to traditional Chinese painting with unwavering focus. He draws inspiration from ancient masters without being bound by tradition, absorbing the strengths of diverse schools and boldly innovating to forge his own unique style. His works exhibit profound skill, bold and mature brushwork. He emphasizes ink and brush techniques, advocates sketching from life, and frequently travels to broaden his horizons—his paintings reflect his character: natural, grand, and striving upward. His art transcends the mundane, free from worldly clutter. He specializes in flower-and-bird painting, particularly fish, rendering fish with divine precision, earning him the title "One-Stroke Fish of Guandong." Master Qi's "Taiji Fengshui Fish" enhances household feng shui and wealth, bringing continuous blessings and fortune to the owner’s grand endeavors. Master Qi’s painting techniques have been personally guided by renowned Chinese painting masters Han Meilin and Lu Ren (Li Chunde), who highly praise his work. His root carving style is magnificent and unrestrained, radiating boundless vitality like the fertile black soil of Northeast China. He has won one international gold medal and five national gold medals, earning the title "First Person in China to Win International Gold in Root Carving." His works are collected in more than 20 countries and regions.
