Personal Profile

Yi Caiyan, from Yichun, Heilongjiang, is a master of freehand brushwork painting and currently holds the title of National First-Class Artist. She is a member of the Heilongjiang Provincial Artists Association of the China Artists Association, Vice President of the Beidou Academy of Calligraphy and Painting, and Vice President of the Contemporary Freehand Ink Painting Research Institute. She serves as an Art Consultant for the Beijing-Tianjin Rongbaozhai Academy of Art. Her mentors include renowned contemporary artists Ouyang Zhongshi, Zhang Lichen, Ren Zhi, and Chen Peihua. She has furthered her studies at the Central Academy of Fine Arts, Tsinghua University Academy of Art, and the Rongbaozhai Painting Academy. Her works draw inspiration from ancient traditions, adhering to orthodox lineage, characterized by bold and expressive brushwork with strict compositional discipline. Her works have been selected numerous times for national exhibitions and have won multiple awards. Solo exhibitions have been successfully held in Hong Kong, Southeast Asia, South Korea, and other regions and countries. For many years, she has focused primarily on freehand ink painting of flowers and birds, tirelessly creating without interruption. She has visited renowned artists and learned from esteemed masters, humbly absorbing the strengths of various schools while compensating for her own shortcomings, and upholding the philosophy of "Learning from antiquity is not as good as learning from nature." Building upon traditional painting, she has innovated and broken through boundaries, experimenting with diverse brush and ink techniques to achieve a variety of stylistic transformations, thereby revealing different aesthetic realms in her works. Due to her unwavering dedication to art, she perceives the collision and communication between nature and the soul within the natural world, using thought as her brush and vision as her ink, blending the rugged masculinity of the north with the graceful beauty of the south, fully embodying her contemporary spirit and creating dual artistic scenes through the natural, ink-wash landscapes!
