Hu Weidong
Hu Weidong, a native of Heilongjiang, currently resides in Beijing. He is a member of the Chinese Calligraphers Association, director of the China Calligraphy and Painting Artists Association, council member of the World Masters Painting and Calligraphy Academy, specially appointed calligrapher at the Chinese Mao Zedong Thought Research Institute, director of the Chinese National People's Painting and Calligraphy Academy, member of the Ink and Danqing Painting and Calligraphy Academy on China Education Channel, director of the Heilongjiang branch of the Chinese Celebrity Art Academy, president of Beijing Wusheng Calligraphy and Painting Academy, president of Jingdong Guoyoutang Calligraphy and Painting Academy, and vice president of Linzhou City Guoxing Calligraphy and Painting Academy in Henan. From childhood, he has had broad interests, especially a deep passion for calligraphy. Immersed since youth in the artistic ocean of calligraphy, he began with the Ouyang (Ou) and Yan styles, and now excels in regular script, cursive script, clerical script, and seal script. He has won numerous honors in national, provincial, and municipal competitions. Through years of diligent exploration and focused study, absorbing the strengths of various schools, he has ultimately forged his own unique path in calligraphic art.
The main characteristics of his works are: vigorous and powerful strokes, smooth flow of energy, elegant and free-spirited style. His cursive script reflects the influence of Huai Su. On his artistic journey, he not only carries forward the essence of traditional calligraphy but also pioneers new ground. When concentrating deeply and lifting his brush, he writes freely and naturally, with vivid charm and profound resonance that leaves a lasting impression. His cursive script is praised by peers in the industry as belonging to the Huai Su tradition.
In 2012, he was recognized as one of the first batch of influential calligraphy and painting brand artists and ranked among the Top 100 Global Fine Arts Influential Figures;
For several consecutive years, he participated in major events such as the China Education Channel’s "Ink Splashing Across China" Spring Festival Gala, the Charity Ten-Thousand-Mile Journey commemorating the 80th anniversary of the Red Army’s Long March victory, and other large-scale public welfare volunteer activities;
In July 2013, he was awarded the International Qi Baishi Art Center Art Achievement Award;
In October 2014, he won first prize in the Chinese division of a world art competition online event;
In November 2015, he won first prize in the "Southern Huang, Northern Qi" Cup Calligraphy and Painting Competition;
In May 2016, he was selected into the top 100 of the "Chinese Soul – Huaxia Brand Masters" list. In the same year, his series of works represented by the calligraphy piece “Jing Qi Shen” (Spirit, Energy, Vitality) were permanently collected by the Bangkok Cultural Museum in Thailand;
In August 2017, he entered the "China’s Best Brand Art Figures" list;
In September 2018, the China Philatelic Promotion Center published a collection titled "Belt and Road, Chinese Dream – Showcase of National Outstanding Artists," which was released on authoritative websites including Xinhua News Agency, NetEase News, China.com, Tencent.com, and Phoenix News;
In 2018, he received the honorary title of "Artist of Greatest Collection Value for Timeless Legacy";
In 2019, he was awarded the title of "National Gift Calligraphy and Painting Artist".
