Liu Defang
Personal Profile
Liu Defang was born in 1958 in Harbin, Heilongjiang Province. He graduated in 1991 from the Art Department of Harbin Educational College with a bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts; completed the postgraduate class at the School of Art, Soochow University in 2003; and in 2013 was admitted as a part-time graduate student in the Art Design program at the College of Materials, Northeast Forestry University, where he earned his master’s degree. He is currently a fine arts instructor in the Art Design program at the College of Materials, Northeast Forestry University.
Liu Defang is a member of the Heilongjiang Branch of the China Artists Association; a member of the Heilongjiang Association of Art Design; and a member of the Harbin Artists Association. Liu Defang has long been engaged in art education, design instruction, and fine art creation, specializing in oil painting, watercolor painting, and decorative art design. In the field of artistic painting, he was primarily trained under renowned painter Liu Shuqi and renowned watercolorist Zhang Xiangde.
His artistic and design works have been published numerous times in national and provincial-level publications; his fine art pieces have participated in multiple provincial and municipal exhibitions and received awards. Painter Liu Defang’s works are distinguished by a unique style, presenting viewers with pure, elegant, and beautiful visual effects, embodying a distinctive aesthetic style. His paintings possess high aesthetic and collectible value, and have received high praise from authoritative art experts and art enthusiasts.

In 1993, oil painting “Rui Xue” was selected for the Heilongjiang Provincial Art Exhibition and received an Excellent Award;
In 1995, oil painting “Winter Memories” was selected for the Heilongjiang Provincial Art Exhibition and received a Third Prize;
In 2003, oil painting “Young Girl” was selected for the Heilongjiang Oil Painting Exhibition and received an Excellent Award;
In 2011, watercolor painting “Lilac” was selected for the Heilongjiang Provincial Art Exhibition and received a Second Prize;
In 2014, relief sculpture “Young Girl and Lotus” was selected for the Heilongjiang Provincial Art Exhibition and received a First Prize;
In 2014, publication “Decorative Pattern Design” was selected for the Heilongjiang Provincial Art Design Exhibition and received a First Prize;
Between 2010 and 2016, six research papers on art design were published in national Class-A Chinese core journals.
