 Fan Xian, male, born in 1953. Art name: Ye Long, pseudonym: Buyi Ben Se. Hebei Province, Laiyuan County native, retired. Member of the Baoding City Calligraphers Association, member of the Chinese Senior Calligraphy Research Society, Hong Kong Federation of Literary and Art Circles Calligraphers Association member, member of the Artists Association, and painter at the Laiyuan Academy of Fine Arts. Since childhood, he has been deeply passionate about calligraphy and painting. He began his regular script studies with Ouyang Xun’s Jiucheng Palace, later studying Chu Suiliang’s Shengjiao Sequence, Yan Zhenqing’s Qinli Stele, Zhi Yong’s True and Grass Script Thousand Character Classic, and Wei Stele inscriptions! His small regular script initially followed Wen Zhengming’s Chibi Fu and Zhuge Liang’s Chu Shi Biao, among others! His running script was inspired by Wang Xizhi and Wang Xianzhi! His seal script drew from the Yibing Stele, the Cao Quan Stele, and the Shichen Stele! His seal script initially imitated Deng Shiru, later focusing on the Stone Drum Texts. He also practices seal carving. He is obsessed with copying ancient calligraphy models—drawing on bedding while sleeping, sketching on the floor in the bathroom, reciting poetry while walking, and memorizing calligraphy theories while riding in vehicles. For decades, he has neglected meals and sleep. During his working years, he designed carpet patterns and layouts, earning trust and exemption from inspection from clients in over a dozen countries including Italy, the United States, Japan, the United Kingdom, and Canada. His works received an Excellent Award at the 2007 Guozhen Pine and Bamboo Cultural Festival. In 2008, he won an Excellent Award at the “Harmonious China, Singing Praises of the Olympics” Large-scale Calligraphy Exhibition in Baoding City. He won a Bronze Award at the “Yuan Shui Qing, Min Xing Cup” New Year Celebration Calligraphy and Painting Exhibition. In 2013, he received an Excellent Work Award at the National Senior and Middle-aged Calligraphy and Painting Competition. In 2015, he received an Excellent Work Award at the National Senior and Middle-aged Calligraphy and Painting Competition. In 2016, he won the Group Gold Award at the “Dongfanghong: Homage to the Great Leader” National Calligraphy and Painting Exhibition Commemorating the 40th Anniversary of Chairman Mao’s Passing.
