Personal Profile

Jia Yanqiang, pen name Fang Jie, was born in 1971 in Xian County, Hebei Province. He is currently recognized as a Folk Arts and Crafts Master of Hebei Province, a member of the Hengshui Ji School Inside Painting Association, and a Master of Arts and Crafts in Hengshui City.Since childhood, he has been fond of painting. In 1988, he began researching and creating inside painting art. In 2003, he became a disciple of the master inside painter Mr. Wang Chunguang, dedicating himself wholeheartedly to the design and creation of inside painting. He quickly distinguished himself among many young artists and emerged as a leading figure, producing numerous outstanding works. Jia Yanqiang demonstrates unique ingenuity in both conceptualization and painting technique, constantly studying and innovating as he creates. His painting subjects have become increasingly diverse, including flowers and birds, figures, and landscapes—particularly excelling in landscapes, which are elegant, distinctive, profound in artistic conception, and delicately refined. His landscape works encompass both traditional Chinese landscapes with classical elegance and fine lines, as well as bold, expressive modern landscapes. He also depicts magnificent scenes such as the Great Wall, the Temple of Heaven, Shanhaiguan Pass, panoramic views of the Mountain Resort, and aerial panoramas of the Xiong’an New Area and other famous scenic spots and historical sites. Especially notable are his works on natural crystal and agate snuff bottles, where he skillfully integrates natural patterns with his own artistic creations, achieving a harmonious blend of nature and human artistry. Each piece is one-of-a-kind and highly sought after by collectors. Upon close examination, every inside painting by Jia Yanqiang—from initial conception and composition to outlining, texturing, dotting, handling light and shadow, perspective, and coloring—reveals his distinctive style. Particularly for large-scale, highly detailed works, the process from initial stroke to final form presents immense technical difficulty. Yet through his meticulous execution, he perfectly presents each piece to the viewer. Many of his works have been collected by national institutions and have received high acclaim and recognition. Notably, in April 2017, his state gift artwork “Cloisonné Inside-Painted Ruyi Zun” received high praise from President Xi Jinping and former U.S. President Donald Trump. Representative works include “Mountain Journey,” “Travelers on the Road,” and “Rising to Prominence.”
